Anybody own one? I know there's a bunch of dudes on here with high end PRS's, then there's the rest of us with mortgages and kids.

I'm contemplating one of the SE's

Would be of course putting new pickups in it, locking tuners, maybe redoing the headstock as I don't like artist names on guitars, just a pet peeve of mine.

Tremonti

All are 25" scale, except for the 245 and the Bernie Marsden which are 24.5. I've never played 25" scale, wonder how much of a difference there is.

Are you looking for more like an LP type PRS SE? I have owned SE245s and Bernies and the Bernies are excellent.

I had a Singlecut SE before I picked up my usa's and it was really nice for the $275 or whatever that I paid for it. The body is a little thinner, maybe a little thinner still than the sct, and the pickups were kind of nondescript but still sounded decent. It played well and stayed in tune, and compared to other guitars at the price point, if I were looking at sub 300 dollar guitars I'd look at SE's first everytime. All the guitars on this song were that se though my engl. The mix is not great, but the core tone I thought was pretty good.

I had one of the Santana se's. It was actually really solid. Nice set up too.

I absolutely love my SE7s. Overseeing the manufacturing in Korea and doing all the setups in Maryland really make for a good instrument at a cheap price. I've had 2 and played a couple more SE7s in stores and they were extremely consistent with no buzzing, low action, and even the pickups sounded ok. I swapped out the magnet in my SE HFS7 with Alnico 2 and it's now my favorite bridge pickup. It sounds very close to a Gibson 57 classic with the A2. The neck pickup was pretty close to the Dominger I have in there now but the Dominger is sweeter, clearer and has more output. I can't speak for the 6 string SEs but the 7s are great. Wish they made an American version of it though that wasn't custom shop at $9-10k. I just don't have the incentive to spend that much when I can pick up an SE7 for around $500 but I'd go $2-3k for an american made.

I own four SE's. 245, Clint Lowery, Custom 24, and new edition Zach Myers. All less than a year old except the 245 which I've owned for about 4 years now. All kick ass guitars, but I will say that the tuners, nut, and electronics are not all that great. I've upgraded everything possible on my 245 and it's a nail driver now. If anything I got in the habit of upgrading the nut as soon as I got another SE. Usually all it needs in my opinion. Great guitars for the money for certain.

I also owned a pre-bird inlay Tremonti. Only reason I sold it was I just didn't dig how thin the body was compared to the 245. Other than that a great playing guitar.

I bought a SE Custom 24 Floyd a few months ago and I love it! Best playing guitar I have ever had, and other current axe is a Ibanez Prestige model. Also had a Jackson and a Ibanez USA Custom. The best part was I only paid $680. Guitar is beautiful and built well, stays in tune, and very heavy. Been use to playing superstrats for so long it took awhile for me to get use to the weight. Bottom line is very good guitar for the money!

Here's my plan. Leaning towards the Tremonti.

Schrodenger tailpiece. Don't know if I need the locking studs. Don't really understand the logic behind top adjust studs. Aren't all these style tail pieces adjustable?
This is what I mean.

Good Call on the body thickness, I didn't realize that. I prefer thick and heavy, just like women.

 I've had the SE Floyd for a year or so, love it. I find the quality comparable to my last guitar (USA Peavey Wolf Standard). Installed a Tremol-No & swapped the ceramic magnet in the bridge pu with a A5. Couldn't be happier with it.

That's a pretty good looking top for an SE.

Now I'm bummed, I didn't realize the Tremonti had a thinner body. They don't have any info on the site either about body thickness.

I have an SE245 and it is a very solid guitar. Good quality and played great right out of the box. I did swap out the pup's and changed the nut (went w/Graphtech) and I am very pleased with the guitar. Mine has the wide/thin neck and even though the neck was wider than what I am used to it did not take very long to get comfortable with it. I have never owned a high end PRS and may never, but I think it is safe to say that you get a lot of bang for the buck with the SE line. Note - The pups now have chrome covers which I prefer with the color scheme.

I've had probably a half dozen SE's. Every one of them was a great guitar in terms of playability, quality, and value. Had a couple Bernie's which were my favorite of the bunch.

It looks like you're gonna dump a pile of cash into a guitar you haven't played yet. My advice to you - give it a shot stock first. You may be well pleased.

Just had a bone nut and a Tone Zone put in the bridge.

The newer SE 245's are great
I would even go as far to say they are on par with lower end Studios

Hey man, could you take a side shot, I'm curious to see the thickness of the body. I can't find one proper pic on the web.

The 245s are great. Fit and finish wise, IMO they exceed just about any other guitar on the market. Their pickups are ok, but not great. Tuners are also ok. I have owned 5 different SEs, and with new pickups and tuners they are monster guitars.
