Trying to put Kluson Revolution tuners on a new roasted maple neck and apparently I've chosen poorly. The name seems to refer to a revolution in how cheap and shitty your retaining screws can be. The moment these screws meet with needing just the tiniest bit of elbow grease they strip out completely, like there's no second chance. They need a 1/16" hole, and 4 out of 6 went in just fine like that, but two did not. Maybe there was a little dust in the holes I didn't get out or something, I'm not sure. They weren't stuck, they just met a little resistance and I am not exaggerating, as soon as I put pressure on the head with the screwdriver the metal just peeled away like fucking clay.
Now I've got two screws not all the way screwed down that will also not come back out, and with these being Klusons, you can't even really get at the screws that are in between tuners. So if I wanted to say fuck it, and just cut the heads off the screws to pull the tuners out, I don't even have a way to do it unless I can find some kind of tiny bolt cutter that's just the right shape to get in there.
Beware the goddamn screws with these things on a new neck if it's a really hard wood! Even the screws that went in fine lost a lot of the shape on the head, so that when going to remove them they're already stripping out.
This is me right now:
