OK. So yesterday, I scored a used TAD F.A.N.T.A. at Guitar Center for next to nothing.

It's a passive box that goes in-between your Amp's speaker out, and your Cabinet. It has an XLR out that provides a simulated mic'd tone. It is NOT a load-box, and it can not provide silent recording. It needs a load hooked up to it.

MY QUESTION IS: Can I hook up ANY old speaker, as long as it's the proper ohms and wattage?

I ask because I was thinking about buying a crappy 200W 10" PA speaker, and encasing it in a plywood box to really deaden the sound inside. Using this speaker as a LOAD ONLY. Then putting this speaker/box in my garage, and running cables to my studio. (maybe a total of 10' of cable, tops - they're adjacent rooms)

Would this work?

Is the PA speaker in good condition, even if it is "crappy"?

How many watts is the amp you want to run into it?

I was going to buy speaker. Thinking a 200Watt speaker for an 80 watt amp. Should be fine, no?

you just are using the speaker as a resistive load.

yes this would work.

but any load box will do as well THD etc.
