Yo Cats...

So I'm looking for 'the best' AB/Y box I can get - zero noise, transparent, bombproof - to meld any 2 amps and their respective cabs with 1 signal from my ax.

Anyone out there have some advice??

Thanks,
V.

Lehle
RJM Y-Not
Palmer

I have tried them all. Don't skimp on price hear as it will drive you to jacking off. You want quality transformer isolation, ground lift capability, and phase reverse capability. I like the RJM as it has all that, is Midi controlled, but the control can also be from a simple switcher with a TRS cable. It is pedal board mountable or stuff it on the pedal drawer in a rack.

One of the best that is buffered is the Radial Switchbone A/B/Y

It has the "drag" control that allows you to load your guitar as if it was plugged into an amp and is adjustable. The buffers are some of the best, has the added bonus of a clean boost that is also adjustable. Lastly, it has a tuner out.

If I didn't use vintage style pedals, this is what I would use.

For non buffered, I use the Radial Bigshot A/B/Y that has a Ground lift and phase polarity switch, tuner out.

There are other good ones out there, but these are my favs...

Thanks cats... Props racerevlon for the link, looks like I missed this thread by a couple days :student:

Lehle sounds as though it's pretty trick, and then the Y-not. No offence to the Radial stuff, I've just never seen it used in the studio, but I have seen Lehle come through on a few occassions...

I'll check 'em all out, but again, the link to the previous thread was golden - thanks

Peace,
V.

Lehle makes a great product, but is overpriced due to the current exchange rate. Radial started in the studios BTW.. Check out all their product line. I'll be quiet now... ;)

Just chatted with my distributor - Lehle S-go-S it is.

That was quick!!

Laydah!!

I own the Lehle Little Dual. No complaints. But Ill add, Ive messed with a bunch of different brands of switchers and none of them IME have "ZERO" noise. The noise is ussually next to nothing but there is still always something there.

I know you already settled on a Lehle, but just wanted you to know how badass the Radial JX2 is. I have one in a rig out on tour and it has never let me down. It has been out with us for probably 1.5 years with zero problems and the tone is great. No coloration or signal loss at all. Also, every sound company that we hire use all Radial DI boxes. These are top level sound companies, too. (Clearwing, Firehouse, Ultra Sound, etc.)

That being said, I also use a Lehle 3 at 1 (the older model) and it kicks all kinds of ass, too. :D

What do you guys and gals think about the Voodoo Labs Amp Selector? Not an A/BY box per-se ( switches between 5 amps I think). Also, can it combine signals? (Y)

Okay, alright....!!! I'll look into the Radial scene as well, got nothing to lose - so thanks for the extra 411... Ill see what I can drum up, my distributor won't send anything till Monday anyway, so I've got some time to research this.

Thanks Cats,
V.

I've got one :D and it is for sale in the classifieds back there somewhere.

It can switch 4 amps, has two inputs for instruments or a stereo rig. There is a tuner out. It has ground lift dip switches and level control to get all your outputs where you want them. The only thing they don't have with it is phase control. Other than that, its not a bad piece of gear.

Radial big shot works great.

I dont understand why some guys insist on spending $400 on a switcher. If you need leds thats one thing but for no tone loss, phase and ground switches the big shot is the way to go unless you just love spending money.

I don't know either  They also say things like 'fidelity' and 'isolation' and 'properly loaded pickups don't lose tone due to the correct impedance loading' .... these words have no meaning.

Love my Radial Switchbone....lot of features...clean boost, mid boost, drag control, etc.

Oh, you know... It's just a snob thing, that's all :hys:

I'll do some checking around with regards to Radial... As for spending the big bucks, I have direct-to-supplier avenues for most gear, so it's usually a LOT less than MSRP or the like. Just for the record.

Now Jake, your avatar, is that Jeff Goldblum holding a 50th anni gold Lester?? And if it is, why is Jeff holding one? Does he play? Why is he wearing something that looks like a cross between a tennis circuit and a yachting club?? I'm perplexed. Pardon my weirdness, I'm on DayQuil. Christ, I get back home from over a month in the tropics surfing like a maniac, come home to -15C and snow and now I'm sick as a mutt... I tell ya :gethim:

Why yes I do believe it is Jeff Goldblum wearing a white suit pink scarf and cuddling a Gold top Les Paul...

you got a problem with that? :hys:

Well, not really a problem... I find it more perplexing than anything else. It's not something ya see every day, you know what I mean? I mean, the whole thing is just borderline surreal. It's not every day I see a picture of Jeff Goldblum - period. Then to add this somewhat passe white suit and flamboyant pink scarf just adds to its uniqueness. AND to top it off, a gold plated 50th Anniversary Lester. So ya, I find it perplexing. Not a problem with it, just something that really hits a weird spot with me...

Where'd ya get the pic?

V.

Now that I think of it I forgot what I was looking at at the time... :dunno:

Well, ya gotta admit, it's a weird pic. I mean, I don't know Jeff personally, or know if he's some guitar afficionado or something, but the kit he's wearing with his somewhat 'obvious' glasses frames, a pink scarf, and the gold plated 50th Anni Lester...

I just find it odd.

It's alright, I'm over it now. Sort of.
