Yes, there is chorus in the guitar, but i think it sounds great. Too bad the keyboard blurred a lot of it.

Starts at :47. Love the stuff at 3:00

The used detune not chorus. They said that in some articles back in the day. Detune is in a lot of 80's tunes. The luxe pedal can get that.

What amp(s) were they using on Empire?
Reminds me of my SLO.

Love Empire but nothing beats the first few tunes off Mindcryme for my fave tones by them.

Sounds a lot like the micropitch algorithm on my H9, that is a an always on setting and pedal for me. Love that sound, just enough that it thickens up each note and chords with no mud.

If you haven't in awhile, get some headphones..sit back and listen to Operation Mindcrime.

This is just a single track...don't know if it's Wilton's or Degarmo's? But the other guitar is doing a lot of different stuff on some of these parts...so in a way, this is just one layer.

I have no idea what amps they were using back then…
But to me, it sounds like some sort of Bogner flavor…
Maybe even a Bogner Fish on brown channel?

Thanks for posting. Those were great. I don’t mind the chorus. I’m sure I use it too much myself.

I’ve seen pics of Wilton with his amp collection and there was definitely an XTC and a Fish in there.

I seen them on the Opertation Mindcrime tour in 87 and Empire in 1990. Both times they were using Marshall JCM800's maybe JCM900's. They opened for Dio in 87 and blew him off the stage, the audience didn't want them to stop playing.

I'm not sure what possibly could have been used in the studio for either album. Tone sounds killer on the isolated track, nice bright, present attack with killer crunch, the detune just gives it that polished flavor.
