I am jonesing badly for a Friedman but am not sure which one to choose.
My number one at the moment is the BE100, number 2 smallbox which i could get used for much less or the dirtey shirley. I need an amp with a good clean channel and a lead channel that gives me everything from Bonamassa to AC DC to Satriani/ Andy Timmons. Wouldn`t mind to be able to play some Metallica too but the most important thing is to have a good lead tone for blues and instrumental rock.
Thanks if you could teach me a little bit on the Friedman`s and help with the decision.
Forgot one thing: I know that the Broen Eye has a very good master volume which makes playing at bedroom levels a dream. That is a must. I want an amp that sounds very good at any volume.

I haven't owned one but my impression is the Dirty Shirley or SS is what you want. More of a vintage tone. And the master volumes are great on all of his amps. Good luck!

i think a big factor that differentiates each friedman is the 'feel'....there can be a lot of overlap in terms of level of gain (though there are differences in the nature of the gain, if that makes sense) but they can feel pretty different from each other.

the DS feels pretty squishy and juicy, compared to a SB for example. the BE can feel a little 'distant' to some and not as immediate as some of the others that are in the lineup.

Distant? Not at all IMO.

thats why i said 'some' lol

Dirty Shirley can clean up but there's no dedicated clean channel.

From my experience a boost is needed with the Friedman stuff to get the real Sykes tone, or the tone I know your looking for.

Which cops Sykes, zakk Wylde and rhoads?

Real Jose mod for Sykes best tone IMO and Marshalls with boosts for the other two's best tones. Or we could try and re-invent the wheel. :D

I'm thinking Dan Gower might be my man

For sure Dan can nail those tones, and yes a boosted JMP is hard to beat.

I still say one of the best tones I've ever heard was Sykes tone on 'Bad Boy Live' from 2006 I think. Seriously killer Jose (rip) modded Marshall.

Bad Boy Live is an EXCELLENT tone...gotta be using some goodies to thicken it up a bit, but maybe it's just the delays. Just sounds huge in a one guitar scenario.

That said, I'm looking forward to my NAD with my Friedman BE100 that's comning.
I haven't had any experience with these yet, however I have yet to see a video where I didn't like somehting about the amp. Gonna try an SS100 as well. Heard really good things.

I'll get back with some reviews when the Friedman's have landed and I've had some time to compare/contrast. I have some HIGH hopes

Boosted Marshall's are a killer tone indeed   Mark Cameron always told me why mod a stock marshall just boost it with a Boss SD-1...It's the tone he always has to better when he mods an amp

To each his own. I tried the sd-1 on a couple amps and it didn't come close to a sound I like. Maybe when recording, or mixed on a board? It killed the lows and low/mids when I used it. I tried it on the plexi channel of a smallbox, not even close to the built in BEish channel. EQ could be the difference? I guess I've never liked the sound of pedals for a gain sound, or never had the patience to dial one in.
Back on topic, SB does a great ac/dc on the plexi channel with the gain up a bit, can't comment on the other artist you're trying to cop.

Congrats. I LOVE my BE-100. Seriously the best amp for me out there.
