I found some old Mullards in a Sound City Concord GT 80 amp I bought for my son 15 years ago and prior to that the amp was in a closet for 12 years, according to the person I bought it. I sounded incredible. My son gave it back to me,since he never used it and I kept it in my closet, sice I have 10 amps in my studio. I openned the amp just for curiosity an it had 5 vintage Mullards 12ax7, 2 Brimar 12ax7 and 4 Mullards EL-34!(the ones's that say "made in England") I took them out to try it on my amps and they sounded incredible. The overdrive on my amps sounded smoother and less muddy. I knew they were originals because when you turn on the amp, the preamp tubes has a short flash that's very visible. I have't tried the Mullards EL 34's on my Marsha HBE/BE. The Brimmar are nice too. I recently bought the Mullard 12ax7 reissue to compare them and ti my eats they're not even close! I also purshased the Tun Sol reissue, but it makes my HBE channel squeal to much on real high gain. I read that Dave Friedman prefers the JJ EL 34s over the SED EL-34 which are the ones I have on my Marsha, just wondering why? Those anybody had experience with NOS Mullards EL-34 in a Marsha?
