Question about pickups that are screwed to the guitar.

I recently put about 1-inch of foam under the bridge pickup in my JP6 because I felt the pickup was too low for my tastes. With the foam compressed I can raise and lower the pickups a little to adjust the height without the pickups getting wobbly. Anything wrong with doing this? I'm not screwing something up that might happen down the road, am I?

Because it made the guitar tone much more to my liking, but I'd hate to mess something up.

Thanks,
Ken

Foam works great or a mouse pad. When installing the TV Jones pickups in my Gretsch they actually recommend a mouse pad so you have some adjustment for the pickup height.

I actually thought about the same thing the other day,..... If you put foam under a pickup than its not really direct mounted anymore... Now its more like having a pickup ring type setup... I hear people say direct mount sounds different than floating because the pickup is making contact with the body.....Prob not much of a difference though I would think.

If you really want the direct mount sound, you could use the foam to figure out the height you want and then make a wooden spacer block to replace the foam.
