Question about silent recording

Hey guys so this is my first post on Rig-Talk so hopefully I can find an answer to my question. Okay so I have an Egnater Renegade 65 watt head and an Avatar 2x12. My head has a silent XLR record out that I want to use for laying down some tracks, but what I don't want is my cab hooked up while recording because I want to crank my amp to get some tube saturation. And I don't want my cab pushing out deafening decibels. I know I can't run my head without a speaker hooked up otherwise it will blow the transformer.

I was wondering if there was any product or any diy project to build a dummy load for my head. So I can hook up the speaker out into something that won't make any noise, and can use the XLR out and run my amp through the monitors while I record. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, and I'm not interested in an isolation cabinet.

Hopefully this makes sense, if it doesn't feel free ask any clarifying questions.

Thanks so much guys!

A Rivera Rockcrusher attenuator will let you do this. You can run it without a speaker load, and use the attenuator's line out into your recording rig.

I've had good results with SR for cleans, but for gain tones I still prefer a miked cab. ;)
