I wanted to hopefully hear (straight from the horses mouth, so to speak) on whether or not the PI tube specifically in the BE-100 should be balanced or of it doesn't matter at all. I posted this here instead of emailing Dave so maybe others could learn from it too.
I have read so much conflicting stuff on the PI tube balanced vs. unbalanced that I don't know what the hell to believe (this tends to happen when I try to educate myself on something
). I am guessing (maybe incorrectly) that in the BE-100 and other similar AB amps the entire power section following the PI tube really isn't totally balanced anyway, so maybe a balanced PI tube helps maintain that imbalance??? I don't know. What do you say, Dave? Does it matter in the BE-100? Does it EVER matter in ANY amp?
Also, I want to take the opportunity to thank Dave publicly for both designing and building an amp I absolutely LOVE, and also for great service on an issue I had and tolerating my questions and emails as I learned more about the amp. Thank you Dave!
