I recently got myself a VSC Blackout and am really digging the feel and playability of this axe. This is my first highend axe and I have a couple of questions. The guitar has an air norton in the bridge and a tone zone at the neck.I have no experience with either of these pickups and they would not have been my choice had I comissioned the build.I am having to dial way back on my amp settings because the bass response is heavy to the point of overbearing. This is going to create some major problems when swapping between axes.
My question is this: is the heavy bass response a quality of the axe, or are these pickups designed to pronouce it more?If it is a quality of the axe, does anyone have pickup sugestions
for taming the bass a bit?
BTW, I do intend to ask on the Mcnaught forum as well, but I know some of you guys own them and figured this would also be a good place to ask.

I had 4 VSC's and I can say I LOVED wagners in all of mine and I had one with a set of Pearly Gates in it.....I never noticed any extra bass in any of them...not compared to the PRS I also owned at the time...not sure what you are comparing the McNut to...what is your normal axe?? They may have more bottom end compared to a strat or tele??? The only guitars I have heard the Air Nortons and Tone Zones in is superstrats like the Ibanez Jems....they are a completely different guitar for sure...

After thinking about it I guess this is not really my first highend axe, but rather the first high end axe that impressed me.I had a PRS custom 24 for a while with stock PU's and did not notice an exagerated bass through the same rig.I have a mahogany body Ibanez with BBQ buckers and no probs there either.
I have played a couple of Pheonix risings with the Wagners and they are very impressive.
Thanks for the input.

I have several. The last one, I went with a WCR Ironman set when built. The bridge is way too hot (22k) for high gain amps and you really have to work at it. I have some MCP Detroiters to toss in it when I get around to it. You can treat it just like a Les Paul with regards to PU selection. Stick with bridge PU's around 10-15k, PAF variants, etc. Depends too on amp gain.

Typically the Tone Zone is in the bridge and the Air Norton is in the neck. Are you 100% sure that you don't have them mixed up?

The Tone Zone is a VERY bassy pickup...not a great match for that guitar. I had Dimarzio Virtual PAF's in mine and I loved them...

My favorite pups for any LP style axe have been the WCR Godwoods....killer :D

Mine fav by far was a Goodwood bridge and a Darkburst neck...not sure they still make the goodwoods or if they just changed the names to Godwood...I had Hercs also and while nice, they were not as much my bag...

Yeah in my OP I had them bass-akwards.The TZ is inthe bridge and the AN in the neck.
I am thinking of droping a set of BBQ buckers that I have on hand into the Mcnaught.Any of you have an opinion on these PU's in the VSC?
Again, thank you all for the input.
