I didn't want to hijack MarcoR's thread, so I'm "transferring" my part over here to continue.

Can I ask the dimensions of, and where you got that pedalboard in your signature? I'm in the process of building a board for my G-System and yours appears to be about what I'm looking for . . . thanks!

It's a custom from lytpedalboards. I wanna say its 48x20 but I don't remember off the top of my head. Honestly, I think its crap; I was really disappointed when I got it. For a hundred more I could have got a trailer trash board. The custom built case is OK which was most the cost but the board itself is just a flipp'n piece of Masonite painted black and is flimsy as hell. It is light which is nice and works well so function over fashion I guess. I would have got the Trailer Trash if Rooster would have been willing to do a cutout for the G-System to fit into but he said no...

Wow - I'm glad I hit you up! I was looking at the LYT boards too, as I thought they were very reasonably priced. I guess this explains why LYT highly recommends that you don't use forums to aid in your decision making  . Oh well, back to the drawing board . . . thanks again!

As I think about this some more, if the case is good, and the board stays inside the case, would it really matter if the board is a little flimsy? I know there is a 2nd tier shelf that LYT puts on their boards, so I can see how the upper tier being flimsy would make a difference; but taking the upper tier out of the equation, I wonder if this is still a viable low-cost solution? And I wonder how flimsy the upper tier is, and whether it's at least somewhat usable?

So this is where I left off . . . anyone have any further experience with, opinions about, or input to provide regarding LYT pedalboards?

It really doesn't matter and your right which is why I will continue to use it. I really didn't mean to bad mouth LYT as much as it came out that way. They were a pleasure to deal with and sent me progress updates as the case was built. I didn't feel compelled to call them back and say I wasn't happy plus the case was nice.

I also requested they didn't cover the board in velcro as it was my intent to screw the components into the board. However the finish was very unattractive so I ended up covering it in velcro they sent anyway. There was a note recommending that it should be covered to make the board less flimsy which I though was funny.

The upper tier is not flimsy at all and definitely functional albeit a bit ugly and cheap looking.

I'm sure there are other companies that will build a case to specs cheaper and then build something yourself.
I know LYT says its some special composite board they use but it sure looks like masonite to me and you can get a 4'x8' sheet at Lowes for 12 bucks and paint it black.

Rooster just sent me some pics of a G-System-equipped pedalboard he did. I had asked him about the cutout as well. He says it works fine with the G-System just mounted to the top. But looking at the pics, with the back of the G-System being 4-1/2" tall, it seems like trying to toggle any pedals mounted directly behind (above) the G-System would not be easy, or would at least be less than optimal for a precisely-timed, smooth pedal switch going into a solo . . .

I'm going to ask Rooster why I couldn't just remove the top (I'll get the hard-top option) and make the cutout myself, and if I can buy replacement tops in the event that I ever ditch the G-System for an Axe-FX and use either a GCP or an MFC-101 (which I do foresee happening someday). Maybe I can get him to sell me a pair of those metal plates he's using underneath the G-System mounting holes too.

I also rekindled a conversation I had with Tim at X-Case last year. They don't showcase (or even mention!) their pedalboards on their eBay Store anymore, but he just emailed me and told me that they do still make them.

Why couldn't you have the pedals in front? Then mount the G-system behind them?

You could do that, but with the G-System , with the pedals in the loops, they are always on, and there is never a need to stomp on the switch. Cleaner wiring to do it this way.

Thing is, I have the G-System's GFX-01 "brain" rack mounted, so the pedals in my G-System loops are actually mounted to a rack spacer panel on the back of my rack (this is why I only buy racks that have rails on both the front AND rear). The pedals I plan on putting on the pedalboard itself are pedals that require realtime interaction (like the Electro Harmonix Ring Thing, which will also be controlled by my dual-output Mission SP-2 expression pedal), or perhaps pedals that require tweaking during a set. As of right now, the Ring Thing is the only pedal I plan on mounting, although I've been contemplating mounting my Morpheus Drop-Tune too (as that would be in the same pre-G-System chain, and if I'm going to have an audio loop run out to my pedalboard, I only want to run one loop - I don't want multiple audio loops running from my rack out to my pedalboard).

The clubs we play at are really tight on space, so I don't forsee being able to use anything bigger than a 36" pedalboard (even 36" is stretching it); and the G-System, volume pedal, expression pedal, and wah controller for my rack wah will take up the entire 36" side-by-side (so there's no more room to mount other pedals adjacent to anything else - they'd need to go above) . . .
