Questions about Peavey JSX Combo 2x12 amp

Hey guys, I need some advice and help on a possible trade. I was contacted by someone who is interested in putting up his Peavey JSX Combo amp for my custom built one-off 7 string. I have no issues with trading the guitar, I have been looking to get rid of it. I started playing with a new band recently that goes in the veins of TOOL and Chevelle. You're typical alt-hard rock stuff, whereas I'm more of a death metal guy, I'm willing to make the change to find a band I can play many venues with. I've been lugging my Mesa Mark V:35 combo to and from practice, but I don't wanna leave it there as it's my at home studio recording amp and I want to find a reliable amp for gigging that I can leave at the practice space. This almost seems like a no brainer great deal, but I noticed these Peavey amps, albeit tube USA made amps, don't hold their value well, but I haven't been able to find a bad review on them. People seem to really love this amp. Thoughts?

I had the JSX head and was a great amp for gigging. We did everything from Creedence to Metallica, etc. so I think it could easily do Tool and Chevelle stuff.

A JSX will keep you covered. Keep in mind that 2x12'' combos are heavy AF though if that's an issue.

JSX great amp no doubt,I have a 2 12 Triple X that sounds killer. Yes its heavy but I put casters on it and it makes it much easier to move around.I had the JSX head and it is a great sounding amp.

I don't believe that. It was the Ultra platform. Not just based off the XXX.
Joe/Peavey gave the JSX three usuable channels, more lowend, a more prominent midrange voicing and fat switches to alter the gain channels attack and sag. All of which were welcomed additions to the Ultra platform.

If it were me I wouldn't do that trade, but I am not a combo guy, especially 212 combos. I prefer to breakup the weight.

I have been downsizing and noticing that guitars are selling much faster than amps. Just something to consider if you don't dig the JSX.

One thought is that 212 combo they're very hard to move as far as sales go. Guitars are also moving better than amps at the moment around here and Tampa anyways. The jsx is an awesome man, be prepared to lift a 90 pound amp in and out of your truck.

I had heard he started with the XXX. Regardless, I prefer the XXX to the JSX.

This is a killer amp, but it will indeed be tough to unload. Due to the size and weight you'll be forced to sell locally. I gigged a 2x12 XXX for years and it was amazingly road-worthy. Never a problem. Built (and weighs) like a tank.

If you tend to flip gear quickly, I would pass. But if you are the type to hold onto gear for a long time I would go for it. They are only going to appreciate in value.

Loved my 2x12 JSX combo, and I had it for almost a year. Yeah, the resale value blows on JSX. I think I paid 275 for it, with footswitch and it was in excellent condition. I also had the head version for a while, paid 300/325 for that one. Could be I got lucky, twice, could be as I said before, resale value blows. Neither ever gave me problems, and like others have said very heavy 2x12 combo.
