Hey guys, looking for a few basic things. 1 Channel switching on the herbert or Vh4S (which I choose as my jamming, gigging amp), 2 good chorus, delay, reverb, maybe some pitch shifting, 3 TRUE BYBASS and no tonal alteration when I have the OD on. I know the G-System seems the best, but is so damn expensive. I was just looking at the Gt 10 and it looked nice, but I did not pull the trigger for 499 as I wanted to get some feedback from you experts on it's quality of effects ( I am a simpleton I don't like pedals, i just like a nice neat floor board to change channels and just need the basics for FX) The G-System and Gt 10 seem like a nice option. Show up to a gig, bring the head and floor board, and boom I have everything I need and less wires (I hate wires!) I have no roadies when we start gigging etc, so I am gonna have enough shit to bring like the cab, 2 guitars etc. So this seems like an option for me. Wadda ya think? :D Thanks guys!

Oh also I am assuming best place is the serial loop?

I owned a GT-8. It was okay, but I never liked what the 4 cable method did to the tone. I also owned 2 Rocktron Xpressions - but I never had the patience to tweak them as there were to many parameters to adjusts using various sub-menus. Now I use the Eventide Timefactor and Modfactor pedals. They are pretty high-quality effects at a decent price (I paid $650 for both after MF discounts). Also, they are super easy to use (just like any other pedal), but you can also save patches and they are MIDI switchable so you can still just have the ground control pedal board, or whatever you use.

Thanks for the input man. What did you mean by four cable method? I thought the outputs would go into my serial loop, 2 cables, and the the midi cable to my Head? (and of course the power supply)Thanks man!

That way works as well. But the four cable method makes it more versatile as you can put some effects in front of the amp and some effects in the loop.

Here is a thread at Boss GT Central which explains it...

Thanks man, I am seriously consdering this on the G-System, but obviously this is way less expensive. However I was reallllly please with the ease of use and FX from he G-Force, that maybe the G-System would be my best bet.

I think I would want all my FX to run serial and not in the front. I had G-Force between my Triaxis and 2:90 and the FX were slammin. I should have never sold that thing :( I got it for a steal off craigslist  :aww:

i know you dont like the price but g system friggin rocks!
peace

yeah the G-System is like $1499 and the GT-10 is $499. My thing is that the G-System might be over kill for what I need it for if the GT-10 has what I need. I also did a lot of reading and watching the tutorials and the Gt-10 looks slammin. I do love the FX from my simple Boss pedals I have owned and if they are all in there, I would be pleased. the looper on it looks awesome for a one guitar player band, like playing the firt bar of a chorus live, loop it with one button and then doing my little harmony doo tads over it.

The silly but cool feature it has is this auto riff thing. Hysterical, watch this vid.  Play one note and it spits out a flurry of notes in that scale LOL

I bought the GT-8 based on the Johnny Demarco vid where it sounds really sick, and ended up absolutely hating it, the only reason I haven't moved it is I can't find anyone to sell it to locally.

I would advise going with the G-System, you will be much happier.

LOL too late for me now. i just got the GT-10 today. After fiddling with it and my Herbert I quickly got a great sparkling chorus clean tone, set a preset with nothing on to get the true Diezel distortion, and it colors it a tad, but you can barely notice it, since I am running it serial. I swapped it back and forth and mad quick recordings of it with and with out, and the tone loss is negligible. The wah is great and volume pedal useful. The auto riff is hysterical for pretending to be a fast solo player LOL and the looper is great, but when I looped a chorus to one of my songs with the OD on, I could not hear my playing over it very much, so I need to tweak that. But a great unit so far and I have lot's of reading to do. Fo a pedal hater and wire hater, it is perfect for me the one guitar guy in my new band, that I can switch channels and FX with one board, and not have a rack or anything else to bring to a jam space or gig. just the head, guitars, and the board. :) More to come, vid of course next week when I explore all the features. but I am NOT using ANY of the distortion models. I just use the FX. I have them all off when I want that signature Diezel overdrive

I used the 4 cable method with no effects on, no preamp on and also another patch with a bit of delay only. No matter what I did, the amp sounds like it's got a phase effect going on. It just doesn't sound raw or close to it anyway. On the GT10 the Send Return levels are half way (100 out of 200), and I'm running it though the serial loop of my amp. Am I doing something wrong?

Hey man, I am gonna make a vid soon "GT-10 for Dummies like me who don;t want the modeling"

Here is the deal I learned so far. Ok Set the Diezel to omni, and the GT-1 to Omni.
Then you can now switch and store which Diezel channel to a user preset.

Ok then if you want just raw diezel distortion say ok? no FX for example.

Go to system and select the first screen and fiddle and lower the left ouput about 3 db if you are using EMG's.

Now the key is this, turn off ALL FX especially the preamp button. The make sure you go in to the send/return menu and fiddle with the send and retrun levels until it sounds transparent to your ears. This is tedous but worth it, as you don;t want to change your diezel settings, you want to find the right S/R on the GT-10 for the patch so that it sounds as close as no alteration (no boss products have true bypass) ok then also on the main patch screen you can set the patch from 1-100. For no FX set it low or to where there is not a volume change or tone,. I am not in front of it now, but pretty sure that you may set it to 0 for no patch what so ever. Not sure about that.

the long and skinny of it is you really need for each preset play around with the S/R on the Gt-10 and all the FX are off but which ones you want. I found there is no master number for S/R....each prest I found I need to fiddle till it sounds right like say my chorus clean preset has different send and return settings. And also make sure you use the 4 cable method and run it serial NOT parallel.

Also one last thing.....even with the preamp effect OFF, STILL go into the preamp menu and change it from dual to single. For some reason if if off, it gives a boost.

So I know sound like a pain in the ass doing all this but once it is all set up, the results are great. For $499 you have a midi switcher for channles tons of FX, so silly but fun ilike the auto riff and some of the synth's. The manual sucks asspipe, so a great place to ask questions isthestompbox.net in the Boss?roland forums. I found the Boss GT-10 forums not very usefull.

Hope this helps!

Hi
Thanks for the reply! Can you please post some of your settings.
Say a patch with NO FX at all, and a patch with a delay or something.

I've had similar experience with the G-System too.. I don't get it why the Send Return values are not consistent with the reality? Go figure.

yeah it is quiet trial and error, but I will make a vid to help guide some what of a set up, but I assure you can keep your diezel settings and tailor the GT-10 to preserve the tone and add FX. I will get on it this week.

Hey
Looks like I got it working.
Turn MAIN output knob at least past half way - mine is all the way.
Return value is around 40 - 50 (out of 200)
Send is about 100 (out of 200)
PATCH Level is about 50 (out of 200)

No FX turn on!

If I turn the MAIN output lower than half way I get the nasal / phase effect going on.

I remember G-System was weird that way too...

Awesome man, yeah I gonna do a vid this week on it how to set it up for amps and not amp models, just FX. I found that a general setting for anything goes out the window IMO. Like for my 4 Diezel channels I have all different S/R, Patch, etc all different. Make sure even if the preamps are off, to go into the preamps and set them to single not dual as even off, they still can boost the signal. Also the SOLO turn off as well, just in case.
