What's this thing like for medium to low gain?

Can I set it up for Channel 1) Clean Channel 2) Low gain rhythm and Channel 3) High gain Rhythm / Lead?
Or is it strictly a Channel 1) Clean 2) Channel High gain rhythm 3) Channel Boosted High gain Lead kind of amp?

Yes, the JP2C does very good low-medium gain tones well. It is set up so that ch.2 is either 6 or 7.5 pulled & ch.3 is 7.5 or 9 pulled for what used to be volume 1 on the C+, the gain is your drive knob. If you keep shred mode off and presence pushed (keeps presence between treble & mid) you can get great biting tones for rock.

I wasn’t too impressed with the low to mid gain tones. To me it’s not what that amp’s all about.

I like channel 2 for low-mid gain just fine. Keep the gain around 12:00 and pushed in.

This.

Imo, yes it CAN do low gain but if you are looking for a STELLAR crunch I would keep looking. The JP2C does not do this very well. Sorry just my experience.

It is an amazing amp. The cleans to me are amazing (literally one of THE best plug and play cleans on a high gainer that I have ever heard next to the Rockerverb) and the high gain is unbelievably good. The best part was that it sat in the band mix extremely well. Like so good where I felt that it was designed around that specifically.

But for a low gain/classic rock type of thing I found it very sub par. Yeah, it can do it but so can any other amp. That was the only thing I found missing. While I prefer the roar of my Bogner for heavy stuff if the JP2C had an amazing low gain crunch I would probably consider it the best overall amp I have ever played.

Ok, I'm going to give one a test drive this weekend sometime.
Would an original 80's IIC+ cover lower gain better?

Personally cannot say as I have never tried one but I see the mixed opinions about the JP on the topic, curious to see what you think after you give it a run.
