Some questions I've searched the web a whole bunch for....but can't get specific answers.

Thus, if the group here can help, please:

I have 100W heads that I need to play silent at home, attenuation is good but I can use my MV's well. Thus lowest cost + audio quality is prime consideration:

1) Is the real cabinet "feel" and audio transparency of the Fryette Power Station Version II been A/B's and considered as good as the Suhr Reactive Load ?

2) I see many users go AMP--> SUHR RL (or PowerStation) --> Two Notes Torpedo --> Digital Audio Interface --> DAW.....using the TORPEDO to load IR's.
but is it possible..
2a) To go: AMP --> SUHR RL (or PowerStation) --> Digital Audio Interface --> DAW.....using the 3rd party to load IR's ? Does it work this way?

3) Can I just use a Suhr Reactive Load or Power Station 2 into a Focusrite USB Scarlett audio interface to play silent at home with headsets using my PC to load and control the setup, and 3rd party CAB IR like OwnHammer or even Two Notes Wall Of Sound?

I can understand that a Torpedo Cab or Live will allow you to be "computer free" as the IR's load into the actual unit thus you are mobile, but is this needed if you will have to purchase an audio interface for your PC/MAC anyway?

I just want a high quality silent playing solution, recording in the future, and a way to tame the big Marshall's down at home.

Thanks!!

1) Can't speak for the Power Station , but I use a Rivera Rock crusher for this purpose, and it works great. I know JerEvil has a Power Station and loves it though. Maybe he will chime in

2) Yes. That's exactly how I use my Rockcrusher. I go:
Amp--> Rockcrusher--> Focusrite Scarlett 2i4--> Reaper w/ IRs loaded via Peavey Revalue

3) See #2 above

Guitar - AMP - TN Torpedo - (headphones, or DAW). DONE.

Reza, thanks for the reply. I am confused are you saying ALL the TN products (CAB, LIVE, STUDIO) do not require an additional audio interface as the system goes direct into to a PC DAW?

Or...it plugs direct to the PC and/or it can stand alone?

Yeah that is how I use mine. Guitar -> Amp -> Suhr RL -> Usb box ->DAW with IR loader and headphones plugged into Usb Box (I have a Roland quad capture).

Also it won't sound the same as playing thru your speaker cab, what it will sound like is your speaker cab "mic'd" and listening thru headphones/monitors... Also most people like to use the Wall of sound plugin, I do for recording/layering... Sometimes I like to use LeCab2 or NadIR with 3rd party IR's for just jamming, real simple and clean. Good luck brother.

Raja, Mahaloz!!

I decided to go Fryette Power Station 2 ordered one should be here in a few days, and will go with an audio interface probably a Roland like errrrl uses as obviously it works well per his video thread. Hopefully the PS2 line out is as good as a Suhr RL line out.

After much thinking the PS2 has too many other uses to not give it a try, and in collecting these bigger amps it only seems like a natural fit to be able to actual run them wide open into a real cab.

Now the daunting task of learning about IR's and DWS is next.

I have a powerstation and a non master volume amp and intend on doing the same thing, but haven't figured it out yet. One thing the powerstation signal is too hot...I have to try it again bu using the return of the loop as the output in order to get a lower volume

Those of you doing this in real time.... do you have no latency in your computer??

I have an old imac and an old m box, so I can't really do it live...there is latency

I record it in and add the IR later.

Monitor myself via a practice amp or attenuated signal or Kemper etc...

I would love to hear it in real time and that would be worth it to me to update my interface and computer.

I plotted the impedance curves of an actual cab, the Two Notes Torpedo Live, and the Fryette Power Station v1 (along with a Weber TruLoad and Aracom attenuator). The Fryette had the best impedance curve by far, meaning closest to what a real cab's impedance curve looks like. It was still an approximation, but it's closer than the others. I think you made a good choice.

If you're looking for some good free IRs to try out, Redwirez has a free download of Greenback-loaded Marshall cab IRs, and Ownhammer has a free pass of V30-loaded Mesa 4x12 IRs. I've been using the Redwirez ones, but I'm thinking of buying the Ownhammer Mesa 2x12 package because it has Creamback 75s, which is what my own cab is loaded with

I do not do a ton of recording but i play 90 % of the time with headphones on. I crank my smallbox through my torpedo live using the friedman v30 cab that is available in la boutique. Great thing is i can just plug my headphones into the unit. I am sure the Reactive load is great but being able to use a standalone piece of kit was a big selling point for me.

what I plan on doing is recording with a Kemper and a di track, then reamping later all at once via powerstation and then post IRs

lot of steps, but maybe the most eloquent way to do it and save tubes etc... ensure exact same tone on every song

I'd love to play live into the computer and hear the IRs though...but my 2005 imac and generation mbox seem to old for that.

By the way I use Revalver (no amp, just cab) as the host for redwirez
redwirez sound great

at the end of day I've come to realize that less options = more productivity and in the end, finger tone rules anyways...;) but I always prefer my amp

Mixo, do you think the Power Station 2 having the xlr line out would have solved the line level issues you experienced?

ummmm maybe, if mine is not balanced that would explain it
but.... the whole point of a line out on ahotplate etc is that is is line level
so 1/4 xlr is irrelevant

I emailed them and they said to try the out from the fx loop and push the switch that makes it hi or low (loud or soft) haven't tried it yet, but that should fix it according to them

I had my mbox on line level, zero, no input gain and it was clipping

Two-Notes live for me! I've been using them since they came out. Tried several others including the Fryette, Suhr RL and Rockcrusher....none of them get me what I want for my ears.

I've been purchasing a few IR's here and there from different vendors, so far i really like the customs from Rosen Digital http://www.rosen.digital/. Also I found a link to the IR's that were used for that Metallica - Hardwired remix with the Kill'em all/Ride the lightning, etc here -> http://richardcookson.co.uk/Tattva/

Thanks for the links.

Hopefully the Fryette talks to my PC nicely.
