Hi all!
I bought a secondhand Randall RG100G3 some years go, and it's just collecting dust because I never really liked it apparently
That is probably because it's defective in some way, but I can't figure out how bad it is. I would take it to a tech if I had a way to transport it around, and even then, it is so damn heavy!! I hope someone here is tech-y enough to help me understand the problems a little, so I know if I can fix it, sell it (cheaply) or dump it. It's a big thing to have standing around, especially when I don't use it!
A few pointers to the issues:
- Overall, the sound is very dark. Lacks brightness I suppose, especially since the amp itself is heavy on the bass side.
- The drive channel is strange. Cranking the gain on either of the Gain1 or Gain2 modes, it doesn't sound very "high gain" to me. It's distorted, but in that untight, farty, annoying way.
- Stability wise, I experienced a few times when I had to move the amp around a lot that the amp had dropouts in volume, but not completely gone. More like dropping to so low levels that the master volume had to be turned to a level that would usually blow your face off. Only then could it be heard, and of course with a very bad sound. Hitting the top of the amp (hard!) could make this better, but not fix it. It eventually fixed itself at some point, puzzling me even more than when I first experienced it.
- I found that when hooking up the footswitch I can't switch the reverb feature off. The LED will always be lit, and I can't do anything about it.
Any suggestions to where these problems come from? Help is much appreciated!
