Opinions on these amps and their modules.... Watched a video of Dave working on a module for Lynch and started checking these out. Some of the Salvation sound cool. Any opinions? Apologize if this is the wrong forum... don't get mad everybody. Versatility is why I am curious.

I have an RM100 modded by Dave. It has a blackface for clean, the Plexi module modded to a Brown Eye and the SL+ modded to a Hairy Brown Eye. I love it! Dave is absolutely incredible and the finished product is awesome!!

Yeah the Friedman modded SL+ 'Hairy Brown eye' .......Kills!
I had one of the 1st ones he modded. Tone still haunts me. ;)

The Brahma module was AMAZING (if you really wound it up). Probably some of the best tone I've ever gotten, personally. The MTS stuff (in my experience) was outstanding - the modules are solid but the amp itself is fragile. I had a 50watt with Super V and Brahma. Lots of cheap used heads might be worth the risk.

After working on mine a bunch, my tech told me that he "never wanted to see one of those again"...

Good luck! :)

Hey kriswatts...
So the amps are not very reliable?..... Did you tour and gig with it alot?

I think the amps are prone to failure to. Shame because they had such potential. Trying to see how the hbe modded module stacks up.

I had the HBE module that dave modded for me.....it was VICIOUS!
Sorta mix of the Heaviest Marshall tone with something else?
Reminded me of the "monkey Business" tone from Skid row Slave to the Grind album.
Here is the clip that made me get the mod......still holds its own with ease to this day!!

That clip rocks!

Thanks Mailman1971 that clip does rock but it's not the module. It's a modded amp. Did your module compare to that clip? What tubes were in your RM100? Thanks again.

Yes....the modules to me sounded VERY SIMILAR to that clip.
I kept swapping out all the tubes. But liked KT-77's in the Lynch box the best.
That self bias was killer on them amps.
Ran everything from KT88's to el34's.

Good to know. I run a mix of 6L6 and EL34's in my RM 100's and love the ability to bias so easily. Too bad the line is done. I really want to compare the HBE module to the real deal on an amp and see the difference if any. Glad I didn't sell mine off.

I actually loved the Friedman Modded Brahma over the "brown eye" module that Dave Modded for me.
That brahma sounded damn near perfect.
Get the Brahma and the HBE module...your set. :D

I had a HBE as well. Killer module/tone. Just more gain than I need for the projects I'm currently involved in, and I have sworn off module collecting/hoarding.....

Interesting to hear about reliability issues with the RM stuff. I've never had any issues with my Egnater modular gear, but perhaps that's because it was handmade in the U.S. with higher quality components.....

Never had any problems with any of my MTS amps. Except the modules were TOO ADDICTIVE!
Had 2 Lynch Box's....Custom RM100....Egnator Mod 50...and Mod 100.
Great amps....just found myself CONSTANTLY TWEAKING them! :D
Tones were endless.

I have a Friedman corrected Brahma. Great module, great tones. Add a boost and you can take it to whatever or wherever you want to be.

My understanding was that the Judge/GTO was supposed to be along the same lines as the BE with a saturation switch. I like the Judge but it isn't my fave. I wonder how the judge compares to the BE mod on the Marsha's as well?HBE mod also interests me.

To me....(just an opinion) the HBE can do pretty much any type of metal easily. Just not voiced like the ULTRA XL or the RECTO module. I used the HBE as my Heavy module for a while. But again most of it is in the attack of the player.
But its an ASS KICKER FOR SURE!!!

Thanks for all the info guys. I have a non modded Brahma and it is a bit weak for me. Kind of Plexi like. As for the reliability of the Randall amps a quick search will provide you with tons of posts on issues with everything from power tube board arching issues to the simple midi board fuse issue. The amps really are not made all that well. Trust me I own 3 heads and just recently sold an RM4. Plus I have about 25 modules with one modded from almost every modder out there. Those modder fockers. LOL. True hoarding at it's finest. Plus next to all my amps my wonderful wife hardly notices all the modules. Win Win

Ibenhad, given all your modules, what are your top 5 and favourite cab/speakers to pair with the RM100's? I keep thinking my cab is the weak link because it only passes harsh highs but way too many soft mids. It is an avatar "vintage" spec cab. greenies and super V mix which i am fond of for the most part.

Top 5 would have to be my Mandarin Stoner AD, SG Fisch, SG Ecstasy, Egnater (HILLY/GIG MOD) SM4, Ultra XL... As for cab I usually just use my 2x12 avatar contemporary with a texas heat and a wizard. My 1960b is at my other guitarists so I don't use that much and I have a Voodoo 4x12 with v30's and Greenbacks in an x pattern. I also use an Orange open back 2X12 but that is two bright for most of my needs.
