Hey,

I am just putting a wet/dry rig together
with my EVH 5150 III 50 Watt head.

I just ordered the Suhr Iso Line out box.

And I was going to get a Carvin DCM 1000 L
power amp.

There around $300 new...

But I saw a Randall RM100 locally for around
$650 used.

I guess I could use the effects return input to use
the Randall as a power amp.

Or I could run two rigs at the same time.

I have two cabinets.

I like the idea of different modules.

By the time I have the Carvin shipped, the
cost would be around $425.

For another couple hundred I could have more
flexibility for recording etc with the Randall.

What do you think?

Randall RM100?

Or the Carvin power amp?

Craig

I always likes the sound of the RM's power section however. It is heavy as hell and is certainly more hi maintenance than a Carvin with it being solid state and rack mountable. for a wd rig.
so the question is you plan to gig with this rig or is this only for basement studio entertainment / as an alt to the 5150III ?

For gigging it would be a hassle to bring two heads.

I just thought for the money it might be cool to
try different modules.

It comes with the Plexi, Recto and XTC.

Also I must draw your attention to the loop in the RM100's (I have the lynchbox) which in my opinion sucks balls for effects so not sure how it would do with a wet signal to power amp. Better off with clean poweramp or the 44 EH magnum pedal which is what I am building my wet/dry with.

I checked out the EH 44 Magnum on YouTube
and it doesn't seem like it would have enough
clean headroom.

44 watts is probably not enough clean watts
for a wet/dry rig.

I haven't tried it, I could be wrong.

It does dirty up a little quicker than I would have liked BUT it is pretty damn loud just barely cracked. Surely good enough if you are mic'ing a cab which I am pretty sure in most places you would be? Nice thing is, your tube amp goes down, you throw a crunch box in front of it and you have a great backup rig.

True,

I think I am going to go with the Rocktron Velocity
300...

I have heard pretty good things about it.

Craig

Hey Craig, did you order your Velocity yet? I am going to be using the same poweramp in a w/d/w setup. Like you, my main cab is an EVH 412, and I am ordering two unloaded Avatar 212's (which I will load with EVH Greenbacks). I will be using my M13 as my effects processor. If I don't like the way it sounds, I'll entertain the idea of a new processor at that point....but I love it right now.

I don't have a 5150 III yet, but do have a couple of heads to work with until I get one.

You may want to try the Scumback
Greenbacks.

Scumback BM55

The Classic Black Back.

I have heard clips on Youtube and they
sound great.

I picked up an Art Sla 1 locally and it is
ok.

I am sure the Matrix GT800 sounds a lot better.

I may upgrade, just not sure how carried away I
want to get with the whole wet/dry setup.

Craig

Why the Scumbacks over the EVH? Cost?

EDIT>: They are more expensive than the EVH!
