Randall Thrasher is a good amp

After reading some of the negativity on some of these boards I was a little bit apprehensive after going thru with a trade of the ENGL Fireball 100 for the Thrasher. It was supposedly this dry ass amp that compared to VHT's which I am not a fan of. No offense to VHT owners  At first it was a little bit meh dialing it in at home. But I took that thing to band practice last night and it performed very very well. Fat and clear and tight. I do prefer to use a slight OD boost (A quick FU to you purists who frown on boosts   ) instead of the one built into the amp. I love my Route 808 and it always does what I want. Anyway to all you goofs who either can't dial in an amp or have shit for ears the Randall Thrasher sounds great at band volumes. It is completely different to anything I have own/used (and have owned/tried alot of amps over the years) but in quite a good way.

My only thing now is try some different tube variants as I'm not completely happy with the softer mids of the 6L6's that came with it. I know OLA's sig amp has KT88's in his paired with 6L6's if I'm not mistaken. Or I used to love E34L's in my MTS Randalls. Anyway I like it so suck it

Ralph (Gainfreak) you were right dude :)

Cool. Does that amp allow you to bias up any power tube?

Yup any matched pair. Kind of thinking about 88's in the middle and 34's on the ends. Or just E-34L quad like I used to do. The JJ E-34L had some consistency issues years back I hope they are better now. Because the older ones sounded killer.

I'd try a pair of EL34L's with the 6L6's before spending the money on a Quad of KT88's.

I never had a problem with the JJ's I got from Eurotubes.

I wouldn't use a quad of the KT88's it would only be a pair, but that's sound advice. As far as Bob at Eurotubes goes I won't be buying from him. I used to be a loyal customer but one problem with one set after multiple purchases and he turns into an asshole. Anyway plenty of nice people who aren't dicks that sell tubes :)
