It's 31 years ago today that Randy died in the tragic plane crash while on tour in Florida. He was my single biggest inspiration and the reason that I wanted to become an accomplished guitarist (not just a "rock star"...I already had that bug) myself. I still have his music in regular rotation and appreciate now as much as I ever did.

RIP Randy...you're sorely missed.

One of the best ever. Amazingly talented person.

RIP Randy! Thanks for the inspiration and music!

This thread happens every year here on RT... Always hits me out of the blue. Thank you for posting. RR was my BIGGEST inspiration to get into guitar. What an incredible talent and personality and human being.

Thanks for what you did, and continue to do Randy :salute: :salute: :salute: :salute: :salute:

R.I.P. Randy Rhoads!!! He was the one of the best and will always be remembered. A great influence on me past and present!!!

RIP... awesome player and awesome dude from all accounts.

Was listening to Flying High Again. The riff is perfect. A little swagger. Cool signature leads.

Rhodes knew how to put it all together

Randy was the guy who pushed me into wanting to devote myself to learning/studying guitar. He also was the primary reason I started getting into classical music. I was just starting to take up guitar way back then, I was lucky enough to see the Diary show at Detroit's Cobo just a few weeks before (2/8 or 2/9) this accident.

His stuff still makes me smile and at times gives me goose bumps even after all of this time. I was listening to the Tribute CD the other day in my commute and noticed the chord voicing and embellishments in "Flying high again" and thought to myself, yeah another thing I heard a million times but just now noticing ;)

His tomb is just down the street from me. I think I will go pay my respects today. Second concert I ever saw was the Blizzard of Oz tour here. One of the reason I ever picked up a guitar was because of that show. RIP RR.

Never saw him live in person, but the video clips showed me what a guitarist/showman could be..
RIP Randy, and enjoy the jams up there with Criss Oliva, Cozy Powell, Carl Albert, Gary Moore,Phil Lynott and the rest of the band...

Rest in peace, Randy. Dude was a monster player and seemed like a great human being too.

Truly one of the greats. One of the saddest days in my childhood I admired him as not only a guitar player but as someone that seemed to be a humble and honorable human being. He was the Rockstar who wasn't a Rockstar. Saw him with Ozzy live with Def Leppard opening up and was the best show I have ever seen. I thought Pete Willis was awesome but of course Randy leveled the playing field. RIP!!!

RIP RR

I have been listening to Tribute all day at work, and knew that this thread would exist when I got home from work.
