Why? Because when they go for dirty or especially when they go high gain tones it's typically awful. They think adding a BB pedal infront of a Fender amp is really helping metal players? They seem to have a shitty concept of high gain. Ok i feel better now

haha... some of them over at tgp have a shitty condescending attitude as well

Look i grew up with one hell of a jazz guitarist. He can play his ass off. They just dont get high gain

Are you talking about Mark at Nstuff Music, by any chance? He certainly can play, but he always does this pretentious meandering esoteric whispy jazzy noodling crap, while holding the guitar in an awkward manner with the headstock pointing at the ground. What he plays doesn't even usually make any sense, either. Drives me nuts listening to him try to channel Bill Frisell.

Tone eludes them.
I've got a buddy who is a real good jazz player and I can't listen to him at all. I've known him for 20 years and I've never once heard him with a passable tone.
Doesn't matter how good a player is, if they don't have good tone I can't listen.

Yep, I agree. I also can't stand when someone plays demos and doesn't have at least a single, sustaining chord. I mean, it's great to hear a bunch of meaningless hammering and 1/2 step bends, but how does the amp sound with a power chord?

I see that a lot with dirt box demos. It's really annoying as its hard to judge the amount of gain a pedal has on just lead licks.

agree to both

another example is paul gilbert demoing the new dimarzio paf masters .... in 7 minutes he plays about 2 chords and zero rhythm stuff

+1000 to the comment on jazz players often having condescending attitudes. I have what I call my "jazz face" that makes my buddies laugh. I make this super serious face but I mix in a bit of a smerk and a bit of a look that says "I smell poop but just a little bit".

Agreed.

However........ANY Paul Gilbert is better than a world without Paul Gilbert. ;)

I'd rather listen to Paul Gilbert pass a kidney stone than listen to jazz.

I feel like I'm supposed to like jazz but I just can't fake it. I hate it. It's like I'm somehow a lesser musician because I don't buy into the corksniffery and condescension. I make it like 30 seconds and I go limp. Sometimes I hear "jazzy" passages in a solo and I really like it so I try to figure out who influenced the passage only to find out that I can't listen to it long enough to get anything out of it.

I guess I'll just make peace with hating jazz

+100 to all of this except the part where you said you feel like you are supposed to like jazz. I never have that feeling, not ever, not for a wee tiny single solitary moment. I hate jazz music, I hate everything about it. I respect the talent it takes to play it but I hate it.

I love jazz. Been listening to big bands, combos and all sorts of it my entire life.

What I cannot stand, however, is jazz guitar. It is horrible. I can't listen for more than a couple minutes. :aww:

I love when the TGP dentists limply noodle around soft jazz licks in their bedroom.

AGREED!

i hate when people demo a 4 channel amp, like an ENGL Invader, and say it has a Clean, a "Crunch" or "rhythm" and 2 lead channels. how cute, 2 lead channels, now try playing a 7 string or an ERG on that "crunch" channel and see if you have enough gain.

Not sure what's worse, that or when the ss.org kids flood youtube with hours of "playthroughs" where they play one string on an 8-9 string guitar.
