I’m updating some wiring in a Les Paul and have a really basic question that I should know the answer to: Do the tone cap values effect the overall tone of the guitar when the tone control is on 10? (Brighter caps/brighter guitar tone) Or, is the cap defeated when the tone control is on 10 and it’s basically like there is no cap, ala single hum wiring (which is all I’m good at lol)??

You need a special “no load” tone pot to have true transparency, otherwise a tiny bit of treble will still be attenuated when tone is at 10.

Of course. So would a .022 attenuate more treble than a .047 when the tone control is on 10 making the overall sound “darker” if you will and would a .047 cap make the sound brighter?

I don't think it's doing very much in regard to specific frequencies with the pot fully open.
It's more adding a tiny bit of resistance I believe.

The cap will not affect tone when the knob is on ten. The pot itself will though, unless you get a no-load pot.

For heavy rock and metal, I like the one knob approach. Volume only.
