You'd see strat heads in '85, but rare... Great deal @ $1500 IMO...

Nice guitar. You don't see many like that. The figured Maple necks scare me. Way too unpredictable and unstable. They look awesome but not for me.

so many hipsters in san fran, they think these old charvels are jokes!!they have no idea how nice the originals and custom shops are. gary brawer had a custom shop at his shop for a while, one of the employees told me the guit wasn heckled relentlessly.

def a great deal, bet if you showed up with cash he would knock a few bucks off. i personally love maple bodies.

The logo is fake and the tuners do not look right for that era. Buyer beware. And the plate number would put it at 1986, not '85.

The neck pocket will reveal much.

The tuners are for sure not original

Meh, I'd buy a new San Dimas and have some extra cash in my pocket.

Cool guitar...looks familiar??? I have somebody checking the serial # to see if this is legit or just a parts mutt. Good price either way.

They continued the strathead on a very limited basis up through the first part of '86. Pointy headstock Charvels also started using the Jackson logo around this same time. '86 was the end for "real" Charvels...they soon became the budget import line (Model series) for Charvel/Jackson.

Looks awesome except for that useless tremolo.
They were next to useless on a pointy headstock but worked just fine with the straight string pull of the strat headstock. Not sure why you would call the brass v-trem useless unless you're simply referring to vintage style trems in general vs a locking system.

The figured Maple necks scare me. Way too unpredictable and unstable.
That can be true of a newer guitar/neck but little chance of any issues occurring with a 25+ year old neck as long as it is properly maintained.

I'm with you on the plate and tuners. How can you tell the logo is a fake?

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it appears that it doesn't have the correct phenolic nut as well.

Looks fake to me too. The output jack plate is black anodized instead of clear coated brass, and I'm with the others above about the nut, neck plate number, logo, and tuners.

It's been on Ebay several times over the last few years.

The logo's on the later original ones were bigger (2.5") and took up more of the headstock face visually, which doesn't look to be the case from the posted pics. Plus there is no "made in usa" under the logo, which is a huge red flag. The guitar looks to be of quality, maybe a Charvel mutt or GMW in the best case scenario, in which case the price is in the ball park of reasonable. Pics of the neck pocket would likely reveal which one it is.

Logo should have Made in USA under it in '86... Neck is probably not legit.

I totally missed the logo issue...I've been removed from Charvel screw-counting for too long ;)

The guitar is described (and looks) as "no wear...great shape" yet the plate is worn and scratched as you would expect for being 27 years old. Looks a lot like a GMW with a Charvel plate.
