Recapped the Mark III with F&T Caps, This amp is amazing now! Gain is so smooth, Clean channel is well, Clean, LOL, Might post a clip later on, Christmas party to go to, LOL, All you guys with Mark IIIs should get this done, Its pretty cheap to do, REAL happy with my amp!!!

How different was it before? What was different about it? I have a Mark III as well that I'm sending to MB for a recap/tune up, R2 gain and volume mod, and if he has them a new faceplate.

Did you send it back to Mesa or someone local do it? Mines so due for a cap job and a re-tube. Don't want to ship it across the country tho..

Can you just get the parts? I can change out caps and resistors...

I had mine done a few years ago by Leroy @ Pro Sound behind lowes in Glen Burnie. Awesome amp tech. I have taken my MP-1 and MP-2 when I had them and other stuff to him also.

Had my reverb transformer fixed and a new tank, new caps along with a few other do hickies and tubes and couldn't believe the difference.

Just found the part at Tubeampdoctor.com, And had a local tech do it!, $63.00, gain is so smooth now, i no longer need a boost pedal, LOL

I know on a Mark IV you can solder topside and replace the caps. I only lifted the power section board when I did mine. It was not difficult.

Was it worth doing? My mark Iva is from 1990.

Mine was an early transition MKIV 92 or 93. I think it was. It tightens it up some. If any of the existing caps are starting to go bad it can also make the amp a little quieter as far as any hum. The most important are the bias caps. If you do nothing else do those.

I noticed right away less noisy, Hum is much less, Amp is just so much tighter, and smooth!

The original caps are all Sprague I think. F&T might make it seem smoother. Either that or your original caps were dried up. The amp could have sat at some point. This could be why it changed allot for you. Mileage may vary. If the amp has been consistently played and did not sit for an extended period the difference will be less noticeable. Its a tough question to answer about how drastic of a difference one may hear. Mine had two owners from brand new in 92. It was played consistently. The difference was not dramatic but new caps were definitely in order. If an amp is played electrolytic caps will last allot longer. Even still it does not hurt to change them after 15-20 years. If the amp sat 12-15 is more accurate.
