What's the deal with this speaker? Kinda strange that you used it for guitar. I'm not saying that it sounds bad or something, but I never heard that someone is using pro audio (flat response?) speakers with guitar cab.
It's very similar to an EVM, good power handling, flatter EQ. Sounds killer with guitar applications. Initially I asked about speakers to use with a modeller (GSP1101) because I wanted to have less color from the speaker and was directed to check this out. It's popular in that use, and has stretched across to the EVM crowd as a cost effective replacement. There's actually a lot of info on it at the gear page.

I haven't had any issues. You might end up eq'ing your amp a little different. It's sort of a funny question in that there are so many different variables it's hard to answer.

Here's a vid that covers a lot of different tones, many of which I imagine would sound fine in a band setting.

Well I decided what the heck, might as well try out this v30 again, started breaking it in, and it is sounding alot better and has the bigger less boxy sound I was looking for. I think im starting to like this v30 more than my g12k100, it has really good bite and helps alot with the presence in my solos unlike the g12k100. Ill probably keep both anyway just incase i want to get a 2x12 cab in the future. But yes, the v30 is really starting to get to that point and it sounds really nice, soundbite, slightly off axis with an sm57:

i combined the two tracks for you. timing is off a little due to your freestyle playing and feel, but in the areas of the riff it synced up, you can hear how huge those two speakers sound together. sounds really beefy, especially on the chugga chugga parts! i have a v30/c80 in my rivera ported cab, and it sounds insane!

yeah, it sounds thick dont it!

get yourself an empty 2x12 and get to work!

the mesa black shadow c90 should be a great replacement to the g12k100, although it's in the same ballpark with very similar specs
I love it in 1x12 cabs/combos
definitely the best all rounder speaker I ever had and sounds huge and balanced without getting flubby, scooped or nasal
my chinese 150w hiwatt fanes have a quite similar voicing, but they miss the celestion crispy edge and extra thump, so they sound more "woody" and vintage (they have a smaller medium weight magnet, more like a greenback)

but for mic'ed recording, the v30 is hard to beat

Yeah, give that v30 a while to break in if its new. It will eventually sound sweeter, but yeah its hard to beat a V30, its the Rock\Metal standard
