I'm buying a new amp tomorrow, the Jet City JCA100. I felt like the choice between the Blackstar and the Jet City was like a swiss army knife vs a katana, plus they have a pretty decent returns policy if I change my mind.

I'm really thinking of putting some kt66s in, or modding for kt88s and/or getting a bias mod, I'll be getting a bias mod with the stock 6l6s in the mean time anyway.

Since there's no way of me trying valves before I buy them, I'll leave it to you guys to recommend me one. It'll be greatly appreciated. I've used the search function by the way.

Also, any advice on what bias rating? I don't know what to ask for. I want a hot, beefy but smooth tone with good low end and great, silky cleans, I don't know how the bias will affect the cleans.

If the amp comes stock with 6L6's then be very careful if you decide to load in KT88's or other power tubes.

6L6's pull .9 Amp per tube on the heaters.
KT66's pull approx 1.3 Amp per tube.
KT88's pull 1.6 Amp which is almost double the current of the stock 6L6's.

Best to check with Jet City Amps/Soldano first and check if the heater winding can handle it

Also you'll have to keep in mind the physical size of the tube too... Some manufacturers don't space out the power tube sockets far enough apart for you to be able to use a big bottle tube. I have no idea if that is the case or not with the Jet City however..

Hey man, thanks for the info.

I talked to Drew (Fastredponycar) about this ages ago, I think about my 5150, and he mentioned in one of his posts that I'd need to get a mod done, which I'm prepared to do, I know a good tech.

Drew said that kt66s are perfectly fine in this amp, but I'll get it modded or do it myself if it's needed.

How would you say KT66s compare to kt88s? I've heard people say they sound 'bigger' and more powerful, how are the cleans?
