The recent surge of Fuzz threads has sparked some serious fuzz GAS in me. Recommend me some tunes with great fuzz tones to listen to.
Ive got the Pumpkins covered.

I don't really like em, but Jack White has good fuzz tones with White Stripes and his other bands.

I LOVE fuzz.

Smooth and sexy fuzz tone = sunshine of your love

Most of the shit that sizzles off of Siamese Dream by the Pumpkins

Frusciante and the Peppers have loads of tunes with old school fuzz...

Slash's solo, believe it or not, in November Rain, can be perfectly simulated with a Big Muff Pi and some delay. Doesn't sound like it from the track, but seriously, DEAD RINGER tone (neck pup, full volume, tone dialed down to 2, Les Paul).

Whatever, there's tons out there...

There are of course the obvious ones: Stones, Floyd/Gilmour, Hendrix, The Beatles, Eric Johnson, Santana (used a Big Muff for awhile)

If you haven't checked out Muse, they have some pretty cool fuzz tones. Matt uses the ZVEX Fuzz Factory and I've even heard that he has the circuit from that pedal built right in his guitar.

Ken Andrews has some of the coolest fuzz tones I've ever heard! Check out his band Failure (Fantastic Planet is my fav album), especially if you like the Pumpkins. His band Year of the Rabbit is also killer. Texture based alternative space rock/alternative type stuff.

Sleep - Dopesmoker (not sure on the fuzzbox, could be a fuzzface)
Electric Wizard - I, the Witchfinder (Boss FZ-2)

I consider these to be modern uses of fuzz pedals.

I'm listening to Siamese Dream as I type this, and messing with my fuzz I bought from you Rick :).

Regret selling it to me now? haha

That Failure sounds cool. I knew Id like them when I looked them up and saw they were produced by Steve Albini. I grew up in the 90's. I love that Albini sound

I think they did one or two records with him and then Ken started producing his own stuff. It's that really spacey, layered type of sound with a lot of fuzz and effects, and the chord progressions he uses are just...different. They have a really unique sound that makes you feel all funny inside.  Not your usual alternative type music.

A couple of his tunes have been covered by more popular bands and people probably don't even realize they're not originals when they hear em.
"The Nurse Who Loved Me" was covered by A Perfect Circle on their second album, and IMO it didn't even come close to the Failure version.
Also, Paramore covered "Stuck On You" Same deal. Original was way better, yet Failure and Year of the Rabbit remain bands that noone has ever heard of. Probably a good thing though.

Yeah, it gets there pretty easy on the clean channel of my Rec. I'm still having some trouble with it though. I can't get it to be bright enough without being overly bright. It's either muffled, or cuttingly bright. Which is weird, because my Rec is really bright on it's own. It's the brightest amp I've ever heard, which is really weird for a Rec in my experience. It's just got a lot of high end, and I can't seem to tame it.

I'm still playing with it though. Having trouble dialing in a fuzz tone and a nice clean sound once I turn the fuzz off. The fuzz becomes too gainy and washed out at higher settings, which is cool for some weird sounds. I've had some fun playing with that super fuzzy little clarity sound, haha.

Try lowering the value on the feedback caps.

good stuff

I am super pissed about my tone right now. Been playing for about an hour now, and I just can't get anything to sound right. Lead channel is SO fucking bright. I've got the treble/presence at 0 and the Bass/Mids around 6-7 just to see what would happen, and it's still super bright, all high end. There must be something wrong with it. It's always been really bright though. It makes leads sound kinda cool, but everything else sucks. And then it's muffled and not enough gain with the fuzz turned on.

ANGERRRR.

My first thought would be that it's a tube issue, but you said it's always been like that?

I think it's a tube issue too. I just noticed that one power tube isn't lighting up as much as the other. It's lit, but it's a bit dull.

It's always been bright, but tonight it's awful. I can't tell if its actually worse, or it's just bothering me more because of my current state of mind. I need to send it into Mesa for a check-up. There is something wrong with the Bass pot on the rhythm channel. Turn it up about 3/4ths of the way,and the bass completely drops out. No low frequencies what so ever. Tone becomes super thin. I still can't get a nice clean sound out of this thing.

I don't have the money for new tubes either. Fuck. I just want a new amp. I hate the parallel effects loop, and the lag between channel switching. I do a lot of switching between clean and gain tones in my songs, and this amp completely ruins it. Signal cuts out for a second when I switch channels, so the guitar is just gone until the channel actually changes. Really pisses me off.
