I'm bored again, looking for some killer Prog & Thrash..

On the Prog side, I'm into Dream Theater, Circus Maximus, Symphony X, Pyramaze, Iced Earth, Amaranthe.... I dig big heavy riffs, and sick lead playing! Right now, Olaf Morck (Amaranthe/Dragonland) & Mats Haugen (Circus Maximus), are 2 of the most amazing guitar players I've heard in quite some time!

On the Trash side, I'm still old-school, with Overkill, Exodus, Slayer,Testament, Metallica, but newer bands like Evile, Havok, Warbringer, Revocation, or Lazarus A.D. have been getting my attention of late.

Stryker, Cobra (Peru), maybe some Jorn Lande/Masterplan/Avantasia for the more heavy/proggy stuff.

Lande is one of the most incredible singers I've ever heard. But most of the music he's done falls short of heavy, for me. It seems more of a pop variety of Prog. Anything you can suggest that's on the heavier side that he's done??

Check out Sylosis from the UK, awesome guitar work.

I have it. It's ok, the album I have, all sounds the same.

Holy Grail are amazing! They are thrash/shred with a singer that sounds a bit like the guy from Tesla. The riffs are sweet and the solos are crazy good.

Most of Jorn's stuff is on the power metal side of things to straight rock; it's his age. The Masterplan stuff is the heaviest, with Time to be King being the heaviest. His release with Trond Holter is a pretty cool concept with some great guitar playing and some amazing singing as well, but again on the power metal side of things.

Angra is an older band, but they have some great releases and Kiko and Rafeal are nothing short of amazing. If you don't have it, Temple of Hate is a must have prog/metal release.

I downloaded some Masterplan off Masterplan, Time to Be King, and another one. Also downloaded Jorn Live In Black. Good stuff. His vocals make it all worth the price of admission, and the songs have a more raw quality in the tone, obviously.

Yep, and if you check out his 2006 live stint in the US, where he does Whitesnake and Dio covers, especially on a few Whitesnake songs, if you close your eyes...younger Coverdale sound to a T!

From 1h12m29s onward; first "Here I Go Again" then "Give me All Your Love Tonight".

Looks like you've already been hipped to Jorn, which is good. I'm pretty sure he could sing an auto-insurance policy and make it sound awesome.

As for shreddy/thrashy stuff, you might check out Exmortus. Although the growling vocal style isn't for me, the guitar playing is pretty sensational.

Just a few off the top of my head, some old some new. Opeth, Devin Townsend and Anubis Gate all with new albums coming out soon.

Not new, but Evergrey kicks ass!!!!! Also check out Redemption. DGM is cool too!!! If you want Prog style with Joen try Ark or Beyond Twilight.
