Just bought me a new EVH Wolfgang Special for Christmas. This one right here to be precise http://www.evhgear.com/gear/guitars/wol ... llic-blue/

I absolutely love this guitar, but I’m not big on the EVH p’up in the bridge. It’s just a little too muddy and the notes just seem to muddle out, both when I play individual notes on the low strings or chords. I’m probably going to replace it with something else. I’m looking for a hot pickup that has tighter bottom end for good palm-muted riffing, and more articulation with the notes, but still good for soloing, and not too “ice-picky”. Recommendations? Thanks!

These evh pu have round legs, opposed to the standard square legs...
So they probably won t be so easy to swap.... :aww:

I had Wolfetone build me a pair of Marshallheads that dropped right in. He probably still has the CAD file or whatever.

There are a lot of pickups that could probably fit that bill. Just depends on what flavor you want and more importantly what actually jives with your guitar. It sometimes takes a couple of tries if you're still figuring out what type(s) of pickups the guitar likes.

A few that fit the bill on paper:
- Suhr Aldrich
- Motor City Shema
(Motor City Garuda would also fit the bill, but it's not made anymore, so you'd have to buy used if you can find one.)

A few others that could also work well depending on what your guitar naturally brings to the table and how aggressive of a tone you want:
- Dimarzio Super Distortion
- Seymour Duncan Distortion
- Bare Knuckle Ceramic Warpig

rounding off the "legs" of a pickup is probably the easiest thing in the world to do  :D

i had a WG Special, and got rid of it for that reason. Good guitar, but the foreign made pup was muddy (to my ear) as well. there was a guy a few years ago on one of the VH forums...bought a USA made WG pup and did an A/B comp between the two...it really was night-day diff. the USA was much clearer...brighter, like someone had removed a quilt from the speaker cab... IIRC, the USA didn't drop right in, he had to trim down the ears/tabs to fit the body.

another alternative to consider is, if you have a spec in mind, contact Jalen...who unfortunately is only on the FB (if not mistaken). tell what you're spec is, and what guitar it's going in and he can make it happen. his prices are very, very reasonable too..

There's more to it than rounding off the leg corners. The neck and bridge pups are different heights and are meant to screw directly into the wood. Sure, you can massage them, put foam underneath and use springs. But to get them just like the stock EVH pups to drop right in is going to be a job.

^^^ I seem to remember reading about what you say here...

also.. for a pup swap consideration; Pariah Pasadena pup
