Recording using the Kemper analog outs into mic pre?

Anyone so this? Do you prefer this way over spdif? Or analog outs into mic inputs interface?

I'm just wondering if I can improve my tone. I use spdif on my fast track pro, but I'm getting a Steinberg UR824, and I'm wondering if I should invest in a nice mic pre as well....

I used my Chandler TG2 once and it sounded worse than the onboard pre. I'm guessing their pre is somewhat tailored to their profiling algorithms.

Good to know! Do you record via spdif? Or into the xlr of an interface?

Using the spdif out bypasses two sets of digital to analog conversions - the one in the Kemper, and then the one in your interface. As long as you're recording in 44.1khz, the spdif out should be the best sounding.

Sorry I thought you were referring to profiling an amp. When recording direct, spdif will yield the cleanest signal.

I've been using spdif...but IMO it just lacks a bit of 3-D/depth...hard to explain.

I have a Steinberg UR824 otw and I know the converters and preamps are top notch, I just wonder if I should invest in a nice mic pre as well.

For me it's all in the profile, many have great pres in the chain but I think it loosens up the sound which doesn't work very well for me. Your guitar on the track is super clear. Tape saturator and multiband compressor and done.
