I'm getting ready to recover my 5150. Has anyone tried using 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive to bond the tolex to the cabinet? What are your suggestions?

Thanks

forget the spray glues, they don't work... they do not dry and stay sticky.

Go to home depot and get the DAP contact cement. They have it in water-based now and it works great.. just did 2 heads this summer and they turned out great.

Do not use spray adhesive, or contact cement. The spray stuff will not stay stuck, and contact cement will melt the tolex.

Get the stuff from Mojo or Antique Electronic Supply (both are basically water based laminate adhesive)

Spend the $20 and thank me later.

No, contact cement is fine. I did my Peavey XXX about 4 years ago and it turned out great. It did not melt the tolex and it's holding up great.

I don't recommend the spray, either.

SOLVENT BASED contact cement is flammable & requires proper ventilation, and shouldn't be used if there are open flames near the area (furnace/water heater etc). WATER BASED contact cement does not have these issues. Both types of CC need to be applied to each surface: the cab & the tolex. Whichever type is used, be sure the cement is not out of date. CC has a shelf life, and not all retailers rotate their stock . Contact the maker to be sure the cement is fresh.
