Pretty cool! That's pretty close, it definitely captures the Exodus vibes. Those Langner amps are killer, I do wish more of them exist! I'm immensely happy I own my clone. Langner modded Marshalls are like thrash perfection, and almost no one gets to use them.

I believe so although I don’t know the exact mod Todd did to this one.

I may easily be wrong, but it sounds like an early 4 stage mod without the power supply changes to the tubes. Todd had different stuff he did for different people depending on their request. He didn't have names or numbers assigned to them so its harder to tell. Curt Mitchells Langner Marshalls are 4 stage mods with the power supply changes if I remember correctly. If you listen to the Viscous Rumors Album, those are the 5 stage versions, and that album is a perfect picture of his 5 stage mod. I think Exodus went to the 5 stage mods when Todd got them nailed down. Cool stuff, congrats on the score, hard to find them out in the wild!

Well I'm not a tech or builder, I could tell certain things about it but not everything, but I would guess that sotosprince here on the forum could eyeball a gutshot and tell if its a 4 or 5 stage circuit and wether or not the power supply to the preamp section had been beefed up from the stock Marshall easily. Maybe its a 5 stage circuit that has something that due to age has a slight problem (Im just pulling stuff out of my butt here) but it sounds a bit more "congested" (for lack of a better term) than what I'm used to hearing in the 5 stage circuits with the power supply changes. Not trying to say anything bad about your new amp at all, I hope I dont sound like some cork sniffing dick, its obviously an older Marshall so it could be as simple as a cap or small component thats not quite where it should be. As far as I know, VR pretty much used the 5 stage mods on all their stuff. I have stuff here thats half that age and had stuff like that happen.
I don't know that sotosprince has ever seen that circuit or not, but I think he could answer the question of how many gain stages and has the power supply to the preamp tubes been beefed up from a stock Marshall. He's done some build projects that involve those circuits.Theres probably a dozen people in here who could do it if they were willing to have a look. I'm just going by my ears, but I do have 3 versions of the 5 stage Langners here at home, 1 of them being his preamp. They are stunningly close to each other in how they sound. Hope that helps

If there is an extra preamp tube added would be a big clue. However, they can be added inside the chassis so you'd have to look inside to be 100% sure.

The term 'stages' can be used different ways, some people mean 'gain stages' and some people mean 'preamp tube triodes'. The only Langner schematic I've seen requires an extra tube but only uses half of it. That schematic is 4 gain stages plus a cathode follower...whether that is considered 4 stages or 5 stages I don't know. But I'd know it if I saw it.
