Rectos can't do Cantrell...

A little too tight and modern sounding IMO. Still sounds goo though

Didn't Jerry use Duals in past? Blended in the studio with other amps?

You know you may be right about this. I was comparing my mix with the album track in my car today and I could swear it sounds like there a Recto in there somewhere. It also sounds like they scooped the mids in post-pro on that track, and most tracks on that album actually. Leads me to wonder why everyone says he's such a mid-heavy guy

In an old guitar mag he said he used rectos on Dirt with 5150's and other amps...

sounds good  sounds like it needs more mids to match closer ,but tone and playing

Sorry but it's not even close. maybe for dirt stuff but not facelift.

Indubitably, my good sir. Say, care to offer advice or will that be all?

Sure, don't use a recto for facelift tones.

Are you trying to be a dick, or are you just naturally like that?

Someone posts a clip asking for opinions and I gave one, without berating him or insulting him. Saying it wasn't even close is not rude, it's just what I heard. Everyone get the sand out of your vagina's and then go fuck yourselves.

All these Recto threads are making me miss my old DR. Really wish I had it to mix with my 2204. Recto+JCM800 =

OK. The clip sounds cool on it's own but to get closer to the original it needs more grind. If anything the clip here is too round, smooth, fat sounding. The Cantrell tone had more grind and bite to it. I'd try with boosting the Recto with a Tube Screamer, more mids and less bottom.

No you guys can go back to your sword fight.

Just a quick clip, so excuse the playing. I didn't make the backing track, just the guitars. I'm outta here, bbl, let me know what you think.

I thought it sounded really close, Jerry's tone is more saturated and a bit more scooped, especially pushing up the bottom end a bit more. the tone might be enhanced on the mix down to dial it in closer, fatten it up a bit by doubling it.

A/B it against this clip and see if you agree.

I don't think it's very close to Cantrell's tone, but it does sound good. It just goes to show, a lot of tone is in the gear and not just the hands.
FWIW, Jerry did use the recto here and there on Dirt, but it was just for blending and textures. The core of his sound on Facelift and Dirt was a Bogner modded Marshall.
