We received a Custom Jimmy and have been playing it, what a great amp. We spent the morning recording every guitar through the amp (Tele, Strat, Paul, P90 etc...). The tone is unabashed rock-n-roll, very refreshing and raw. It just feels and sounds right. We were getting everything from Joe Walsh to Angus to Townsend to Zeppelin, it nails everything authentically. It also allowed the character of each guitar to shine through. Anyway, if you're looking for a great rock-n-roll amp this is worth checking out. It is patterned after the Hiwatt that Dave Reeves modded for Page in the early Zeppelin years. A bit more gain then the stock DR103 or DR504. For me the little extra gain worked better then the stock Hiwatt Custom. Anyway, great amp; sounds, looks and built great.

Hey James... did you get to compare this to the Reeves Custom 100 at all? That was the amp that I was thinking you were going to demo from them, and that is the amp that I was thinking of going with when it came to getting a Reeves. Only reason I am thinking about Reeves is because I need something along with the Marsha to shine in the mid range section... I have mostly high gain heads and a Vox AC30 HW. I was really hoping that you got your hands on one and put it through the paces... this amp sounds tempting, but I have heard no clips of this one, or any of the Reeves lineup in person yet... but that super 78 sounded killer from your clips! I am still kind of tempted by the custom 100 though. What are your thoughts?

I had the Reeves Custom 100, Super 78 (50w) and Custom 50 'Jimmy'. The Super 78 is just massive and so versatile. The Custom 100 was cool but just was a hair to clean for me, I played it for a couple of days and just felt for my needs I needed a little more natural crunch and I knew that the 'Jimmy' was coming in via DHL from steve_k. The extra gain that Dave Reeves added to Page's Hiwatt was just what I needed too. The Custom 'Jimmy' still sounds like a Hiwatt or Reeves Custom just a little more grit. The Super 78 is a slightly different trip, more Marshally. I bounced down all the guitar tracks from today's recording of the 'Jimmy' and listened to the CD in my car on my way home from the studio. It sounds so killer, probably best with my yellow Tele with Lollar Special T's, the tone just sliced and had such a razor edge yet not harsh, IME that is not an easy combo; slicing and not harsh. Through me Junior and 335 (both with P90s) it was fat and warmer but still had the edge. My Strat through it made me and Dan both laugh it was so perfect, sounded like Joe Walsh in 'Life's Been Good' or 'Life In The Fast Lane'. It has so much Midrange gurk with the Start it just was perfect, almost like Skynyrd, just killer. And it was fat and vintage with the Paul and going to be a huge combo for tracking rhythms. Kept both the Reeves Super 78 (50w) and Custom 50 'Jimmy'. Anyway, it was a fun morning.

Are the input jacks wired like the old models? The high gain inputs are on the bottom, backwards from Marshall. Took me awhile to find this out.

You too man. I'm out most of the week judging an American Idol event but I am in Monday and Saturday.

Is it the one steve_k had on sale? Price was great on that one!

Sounds like you've rounded out your amp collection nicely James. I LOVED the '78 in the amp shootout and I can only imagine how cool the Jimmy sounds. Hope I can own own someday!

Yeah Reeves is doing it right. Great company.

Can we get a comparison clip of the Jimmy and the Super 78?

I knew the Jimmy would be in good hands with James

He can always say Reeve's named an amp after him :D :D
