Hey Crew.

I had an experience that was like traveling back in time.....I went to my local shop here in Milwaukee and found an old Peavey Renown combo. Like most of us, I was not looking for one. I bring up that particular amp because I had one in my teens and considered it my 1st real amp and at the time that WAS the amp and nothing could beat it. Flash forward...I had to plug into it. I did and could not believe (please take no offense current Renown or like owners) but it was the most nasally, honked out gain. I kinda shuddered a bit and thought, wow!!! Back in the day that this was the best thing ever.

Just wondering if any of you guys have had that opportunity to experience the same thing good or bad. on!!!!

holy shit, was my first real amp too! I had the renown with 1-15" Black Widow in it.

Plugged into a 212 version a few years back, it was painful to listen to hah!

I got a Crate G212 in ~~'83....still have it. I plug it up every now and again, just to re-live the ole'days.

Plugged in to it a while back whilst the wife was hanging out with me....she still is recovering from the bee stings.

My first amp was a backstage chorus 208 and I still have it. I play it once a year for about 30 seconds to make sure it still works. Those old Peaveys are durable but damn mine did and still does, sound like shit. Oh well, when I was 14 it was the bomb. I still remember when my buddy showed me the pull gain. Game changer. What store in MKE did you find it?

i just bought an old supreme 160 head. it sounds great

My first amp was a bassman 50. I remember playing it outside and getting the shit shocked out of me.

My first amp was a Crate G-20. I used it with a DOD supra distortion and thought it was soooo bad ass! Would love to plug into one again and see how it sounds to me now, lol.

My first amp was a Fender Champ. To get distortion, I'd use a pair of over the ear headphones and crank the shit out of the amp and distort the speakers. Sounded like the world's angriest gnat. My first "real" amp was a Crate G212C.

The Gorilla tube cruncher. Jury rigged the speaker wires to run two huge homemade 2x12s.

For me, my first amp was an old Crate CR-112, followed by a Crate CR-212, and then followed by a Peavey Renown 2x12. At one point, I ran two Renowns in stereo with a Yamaha FX-500.

I don't have any of my old ones anymore, but I bought an old CR-112 a few years back. It completely sounds like ass. I've considered getting another Renown, just for nostalgia, but yeah... I remember that I hated it then, and the old Crate covers any nostalgia I'd ever need.

My first "real" amp was a Mesa Boogie Studio Pre than I do still have. It's still my favorite amp, too, although it's now in a 4-way tie for that title. ;)

One of my first amps was a Peavey Audition 20 that I bought in 1983 or so then traded off in 1989 for a Crate G60XL. A couple years ago I picked up another Audition 20 for shits n' tits. Sounded way worse then I remembered.

My first amp was a Marlboro amp... that with an old mxr distortion+

Back in the early 90's, my first was the old Squier 15. Played a Lotus (plywood body) strat copy through it with a Rocktek distortion pedal

I can safely say I do not miss it.

-well,... my first amp was my mothers SOUNDESIGN Stereo System, a huge white whale with a factory 45 adapter & an 8 track playah bitches!!!!

My first was also a Peavey, but I don't remember the model. New in '83, 50 watt solid state 1x12 that I replaced with a Celestian G12. I hated that amp so badly, but I ended up running a DoD American Metal pedal as NY distortion into it.

I eventually traded it in for an ADA MP1....that I still have. I be never owned another Peavey because of that first one

Peavey Rage > Marshall Valvestate 8080 > Ada MP-1 (into the Valvestate) > Marshall Jubilee > etc

I remember being 16 and my friend (who now has awesome tone) bought a metal muff. First practice with it, we all thought it sounded amazing.
