Removing Renegade Top Handle

Thinking I would like to remove the top handle as I think it is just a source of rattle and I don't use it much.

I removed the metal covers and took out the screws but it still wouldn't come off.

I took the front cover off and reached in (amp unplugged and sat for hours!) and I could feel something under there but I don't know what it is.

Anybody know how to do this?

Conversely, how can I make sure those metal covers are tight if I leave the handle on?

I don't have any knowledge of removing the handle but I do remember seeing another thread on here once where someone put small pieces of foam weatherstripping material under the metal caps to stop the rattle. Fortunately I have not had this issue with my renegade!

There is already a piece of rubber there. Stil,, I suppose I could add more.
