I just picked up a new 7 string. It came with EMG 707's which I don't like.
I want to get some passive pu's in there.

DO I have to get the soapbar style?
Can I get ANY 7 string trem spaced pickups?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if you have something I can buy , please let me know.

Should be able to fit any regular pup in there going from EMG. You'll have to get all new pots and everything.

I can't make any recommendations but one thing I'd say not to get, against the popular opinion I had some 7 string Nazgul/Sentinent and hated them.

Edit: although I haven't tried them a lot of the 7 string metal guys are saying the Fishman Fluence pups are the new craze. If I could afford them and needed some pups id give them a try.

To fit normal passive 7-string pickups in those routes, you'll need to bend or cut the mounting tabs of the new pickups.

Wouldn't it depend on the guitar if anything? I had an ibanez and swapped with no issues at all.

The EMG soapbar route is shorter than the legs on standard 7-string pickups. What pickups did you just drop in?

I went the opposite direction, from X2N-7 to Blackouts in an Ibanez 7321. The wiring/pots was the only issue.

What type of Blackouts? They make two types: one that's a soapbar like the 707s and one that's shaped like a normal pickup. If you tried to fit a soapbar like a 707 into a route for a normal passive 7-string pickup, you'd have to route the cavities larger at the corners.

I agree 100% on the nazgul/sentinel. I disliked them. No bottom end. They cut nice in the mids but that lack of bottom annoys the fuck out of me.

I will be trying out the Fishman's both in the 6 and 7 strings. Played them at Namm and was really impressed!

Ok sorry I guess I had the other kind but great choice on the Fishman. I really really want to try them. They've sounded great in every video and a fair amount of guys that know tone have nothing but praise.

Report back if you can after to leave your thoughts on them.
