I've been using the Dirty Shirley for roughly the last 8 months at rehearsals, gigs and in some demo recording but just this past weekend I got to take full advantage of it in a proper studio context. We spent a few days recording at Electrical Audio in Chicago with a gentleman named Steve Albini. For those who don't know EA has a quite a collection of vintage (and not so vintage) tube amps at their disposal. I really got to put a lot of stuff through the paces and it's safe to say the Dirty Shirley really shined. Nothing came close. The only other amp that held its ground tonally was a rather ragged and fully overhauled old 60s Gibsonette combo that did record remarkably well.
Even Albini made more than one comment about how nice the amp sounded both in the room and on playback.
I recorded through an early 70s Marshall 4x12 loaded with greenbacks.
I continue to be impressed with this amp.
