How does the RS chorus sound with amp distortion? In particular, the low end. I like how a Boss CE-2 sounds with distortion.

I have tried many chorus pedals and when used with distortion, the low end has a weird delay thing going on. The CE-2 doesn't do this. Neither did a CH-1 that I had (analog). Is it because of them being analog?

Not sure, but I definitely prefer digital chorus and delay with gain.
CE-5 works great with gain.

I've had a few of the analog boutique chorus pedals and did not like them with gain. Too thick.

It works about as well as most choruses do with amp gain. I thought it did well in front of the amp but in the loop of my Mesa Mk IV, it would distort the signal and would overload very easily. Mine was a earlier unit and I have heard that issue was remedied later on with later production models. So take my opinion with a grain of salt. Truth be told I had a mr black chorus that handled distortion better.

Mxr zw38 is the only chorus I like with gain. It actually excels at it.
