ReVolt bass response

Hey, any ReVolt users, has anyone else experienced what I have?

I love the tones in the ReVolt, but there's a huge difference in bass response between the clean and the drive channels. I have to turn the bass on the drives up to 3:00 at least just to match the clean channel with its bass knob at 8:00. It really seemed like there was more available low-end in the videos I watched. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with mine?
Also, with the gain dimed on the clean channel, it still won't break up, even with humbuckers.
I love the sounds on this thing, but the need to go to extremes with some settings to get what I think are pretty standard sounds concerns me.

Good morning @Than

Ross from Two notes here. Thanks for getting in touch - I would be happy to trouble shoot any issues you are experiencing with ReVolt Bass.

In terms of the channels, and the differences in the EQ circuits between them, it is important to note the stack on Channel 1 is an independent circuit to that on the shared EQ on Channels 2 and 3; as such you will need to EQ these differently to get a similar frequency balance.

In terms of breaking up Channel 1, this is designed to have a lot of headroom so you will struggle even when diming it. However, I have been using a boost pedal in front of ReVolt Bass to break this up a little - especially when using one of my passive basses. When using an active bass, not boost is required on my side to get a touch of saturation.

Please let me know if this helps and if there is anything further I can clarify for you, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Kind regards,

Ross

Thanks!
My wording was weird--I have the ReVolt Guitar and am concerned about its bass response.
I get that the EQs are different between the two sides, but should I have to set the bass knobs of the two sides essentially opposite of each other (clean side almost off and drive side almost maxed) to get a similar sound? The mid and treble controls seem more matched side-to-side. With the bass set anywhere less than 1:00 the drive side sounds much, much thinner than the video reviews I watched.

Hi @Than ,

Thanks for getting back to me. What are you using to monitor the ReVolt out of interest?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Line out into a power amp/speaker, headphone out with cab sim on, and XLR w/cab sim into my band's in-ear monitoring rig all sound the same.

Hi Than, Thanks for getting back to me. This does indeed sounds a little extreme although there will be some differences between the two stacks on ReVolt. Could I ask that you contact our support desk and a member of our specialist team can look into this for you.

I apologize that I am just now seeing this thread. I also have a Revolt Guitar and also have the same situation. My cleans are huge, and "beefy", but definitely a drop off in "beef" and low end when going to the Drive channels. I'm confident it isn't any defects with the pedal, just circuit design. I love my Revolt Guitar and get a lot of compliments on my tone but would love a way to beef up the low end so it isn't such a drastic drop off. Could something be upgraded in firmware? Would appreciate any suggestions, or ideas.

Hi @Rusty VanTulsa

Ross from Two notes here. When configuring ReVolt Guitar we worked hard to voice the channels in accordance with our test amps in our Studio, as such there will be some differences. May I suggest you post some Audio here or to our ReVolt Users Facebook Group and we can look into this for you?

In terms of Firmware updates to adjust the channels, sadly this cannot be actioned due to the analogue nature of the design, however once we have some text audio from you, we can certainly advise on remedial strategies for sure! :)

Thank you for the response. Will be a couple of days before I can get to that, but certainly will do so.

Thank you so much! Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Following up, I think my experience was due to my own perceptions.
My speaker cab + power amp was exacerbating the bass difference and I was psychologically carrying that over to other uses.

After spending way more time tweaking through headphones I was able to balance things out nicely.

Yes, the clean side has more bass, but I think that's due to a couple of things.
* A Fender Twin does have rounder, bouncier bass response than a Marshall JCM
* The massive headroom of the clean side means you might never really hit a ceiling with the bass knob. The crunch side is already clipping, so at a certain point on the bass knob you're just distorting low-end, not audibly increasing it.

I played a full show on it with cab on stage for stage volume and running the XLR to the house with the cab sim on. It sounded AMAZING! Seriously one of the best live sounds I've ever had, got plenty of compliments, too.

I posted a clip from the show on my IG----@medlammusicworks

Thanks so much for sharing - sounded fab and we're so pleased to hear you have balanced the tones now! If you have any other questions, we're here to help! :)
