Howdy all,

After the Colossus demo amp visited the Augusta amp fest, Drew Lankford was kind enough to take it with him in order to record some proper demos. Here are audio only clips of each channel:

Note: He engages the Mode (boost) on each of the gain channels about half way through each audio clip.

And some videos:

I think he did a great job. Thanks Drew!

Question:

How many preamp tubes and how many preamp gain stages? Is the fx loop tube buffered or solid state?

The loop is tube buffered and completely bypassable (via front panel, foot switch, MIDI, etc). The send and return levels on the back only work with the loop engaged and allow one to set an appropriate send level and compensate with the return for unity gain in the loop.

6 preamp tubes:

V1 - Clean
V2 - Crunch / Lead
V3 - Lead
V4 - All
V5 - Loop
V6 - PI

Clean - 3 stages
Crunch - 3 stages
Lead - 4 stages

Gain boost on each channel consists of hot-rodding individual gain stages, no solid state tricks or anything. :)

Impressive. You've built a killer amp with the Colossus.

What's the lead/build time looking like right now?

 Awesome video and tones. I heard rumor of a 2 channel version...

Thanks! I'm proud of this beast, and glad people like it!

We're in the process of finishing up another sold-out run, and yet another will begin soon after, with timing dependent on demand. The longest wait part is the O/Netics output transformer, they typically have a 8-12 week lead time. We had 12 on the shelf and most are already gone! I have an inquiry out with them now to see if I can get just a couple sooner, so an amp lead time could be reduced to 4-6 weeks, provided they have any in-stock.

As for aesthetic choices, we currently have black, red, and white face plates ready to go. Pictures of these various permutations will be up on our site this week as we just did a little photo shoot prior to shipping another round of amps.

i heard this rumor too

I don't know where anyone would have heard something like that..........

While I am working on the 2 channel amp, I have confirmed orders for my new standard product rack offering -- a 3 channel 100W beast with tons of switching options and craziness. I'll post up info once it's closer to reality, or keep an eye on my FB page for sneak peeks soon. ;)

I will be able to concentrate more on the 2 channel after the first two rack amps begin production. If I didn't now have a couple guys helping with production, I would be going insane! :aww:

Sup guys. Thought I would chime in here.

I made an attempt to do a brootz clip yesterday. I don't have a 7 string and the PAF's in my Tokai don't lend themselves to drop tuning/chugging as well as the painkiller in my JP6 so I used that tuned I think down to C or something. As low as it can get and not get sloppy with the 10 gauge strings.

The more and more I tweak on the amp, it seems the better it gets. I would love to sit this thing next to a Meathead, an ENGL SE and VH4s. That's pretty much where I put this amp.

Drew is a big gear whore. I love him for it!

Yet hilariously enough the amp/cab I bought almost 4 years ago is still my primary setup :D
