I know theres been a few threads on this but would anyone care to offer their 2 cents? Considering one and just wanted a few thoughts!

Thanks all....

Okay you asked for it so bare with me!

I've had mine for about half a year now and it's still awesome. The Colossus is also feature packed like all the Rhodes amps, lots of switching options, MIDI, and the custom footswitch is very cool (what you set on the amp is set on the footswitch and vice versa). It's hard to get a bad tone out of it, the EQing and voicing switches (Mode gain boost and Fat on the Lead channels) are tuned pretty well even though they're not adjustable. Clean channel is clear, warm and open, Crunch channel gets you into classic rock tones and adds some grit to single coil tones. Leads 1 & 2 are my favorite for hard rock and metal rhythm and leads, also sound killer for down tuned guitars (bass is tight). Both Leads are thick and warm sounding and definitely has a ton of gain. I also really like the feel of the amp, very responsive under the fingers and easy to play. Also a very low noise amp even on the lead channels.

The long-term stuff: I don't gig so I can't speak to how my Colossus holds up to travel, I just play at home and so far it's survived that. :D It has been flawless, no reliability issues or inconsistency at all, everything switches all the time quickly and quietly too, no varying delays or anything like that going between channels, except the "Fat" footswitch has to be held down to toggle because it's shared with the Mode function (this is normal though).

If there's anything that I'd tweak would be the Crunch channel. It's good for single coil and split coil sounds to beef them up, but even with the bright switch on playing through (fairly hot) humbuckers I don't feel there's enough top-end sizzle (vs. say the 5150 III channel 2), and the Mode (gain boost) on Crunch seems to accentuate the mids too much. I think this channel is best suited to single coils and not so much for fatter sounding humbuckers IME. Another thing would be to have even more switching options like on the Gemini.

Hope this helps!

As far as road-worthiness goes, Kyle has shipped that demo Colossus all over God's creation and to the best of my knowledge it's still going strong.

As far as the tones go, if your a fan of having your guitar sound awesome, this amp is BADASS. I had one week with it and did not want to see it go. I played just about everything I had through it: High Output humbucker equipped super strats, single-coils, P-90's, Medium-output humbuckers, Les Pauls, High-output single coils, semi-hollows... Everything sounds superlative through the Colossus. One day, I will have one to call my own.

Like what's been said before here and in most threads regarding the Colossus (or any Rhodes amp), it is an outstanding amp. Kyle has been pretty good with answering questions so ask away. If the price of the Colossus seems a bit steep, also look into the Gemini which has less channels but doesn't necessarily mean less of an amp. If anything it's a beast! Rhodes amps are also pretty quiet for being high gain amps.

Kyle is a good guy and his amps seem to be bulletproof.

Yep it is. Its 5 feet away from me as I type this. :D

I dig the sounds that Kyle puts out, and he is a really kick ass guy.

Shit! How can I get on that train?? It's 5 feet away from you and your probably 5 miles from me. I'll cover the shipping.  And yeah, all the clips I've heard of that amp sound really good.

The Gemini is also a great amp. In some ways I like it better than the Colossus. It is 10 feet away from me as I type this.

And my Gemini is in process...

Ah the anticipation ...

For those of you with the Andy Wood mod, how do you find it sounds?

Demo??

Kyle was kind enough to arrange a Collosus thru a client that I borrowed for over a weekend. I will say it was impressively constructed and lots of variation in tone available and sounded very good but for me, and just for me, I was seeing if it could/would replace my Bogner XTC 20th which would be a duanting task at best for any amp, and for me, I didnt totally bond with the feel of the amp. Hard to put into words but it felt a little disconnected compared to the Bogner and I like the slight squish and more vintage feel and tone. In the end I returned it and didn't order one but enjoyed playing thru it and I could see others really really digging the amp for their needs. It's really beautifully made and cool looking as well. For more modern needs it may just be the "one". And Kyle answered every email and question I had.... seems like a very cool guy to work with.

Their as good as any of the amps out there with more attention to detail in everyway. The "Gemini" sounds awesome, as does the "Colossus". I lean towards the "Gemini" myself like Jason, but Tremonti leans towards the "Colossus". You can't go wrong with either. Kyle is a super cool dude. No strange shadiness like some other boutique amp builders   Buying a Rhodes is WIN

I would fail as a Rig-Talker if I didn't do one!

I can't muster one bad word about the amp,IMHO it's the best amp built hands down.
When I say the best,I mean the way it's built,like a tank.
The tones it gets, nothing matches the sound of this amp.
From clean to mean and everything in between,no joke.
I have to save another $700 and I'll have mine.
However I'm thinking about selling a few amps since I won't need them after
I get mine built.
Lets not forget about Kyle, a great guy to deal with.

I have no doubt you'll be happy.
