I heard his song on the CD "Guitars that rule the whold" and I was just blown away by his playing. He is such a great singer too. I wish he would come to Portland, I'd love to see him live!

I'm going to see him in 2 months or so. Looking forward to that.

It's just a pity (?) he seems to have stopped using Cornfords. I've been eyeballing an RK100 for a long time.

An older one, but a great performance and a clean tone to die for at the beginning.

all hail richie!
its a shame he isnt more well known/popular (outside of hte guitarist community) as he writes great music covering several genres.

Richie Kotzen rules ! Check out the solo that starts at 8:13 ... NO PICK, as with most his songs on this last tour.

I saw him a couple of months ago. Trust me, his tone hasn't suffered!

Uhh, if you know any other "meh" guitarists that can play and sing at the same level as Kotzen I am all ears.

I could understand some people not being blown away by his songwriting but as a player and singer he is really something special.

Maybe he's been watching JB do no pick for a while and was feeling inspired. I actually enjoy using my fingers a lot. If I'm ever checking out stuff in a store it's pretty much without a pick and apart from palm muting metal I can play anything I normally would. Granted if I'm serious about the gear I want to hear how it sounds with pick attack first though. Nice playing and tone on those vids. Looks like the 2061 Marshall. I wonder what pedals he's using to push it? I must admit I don't really go for the white guy attempt at a soulful, bluesy vocal. Never gets there for me. Beats paying and dealing with a singer though so I only see it as a win for him on tour.

He's using a Sobbat Drive Breaker 4, an MXR Carbon Copy (for some sick effects on Fooled Again), and his signature ZOOM G2R.
and yes, it's a Marshall 2061X 20wt

More metal/shred stuff and less rock/blues, but here are a few:

James Malone
Muhammed Suiçmez
Steffen Kummerer

That is cool that those guys can play some shred and pull of lead singing duties for their band but they are nowhere near Kotzen's talent for singing or playing guitar.

Amen !! :D

I love that guys voice and ability. I picked up one of his instrumental shred cd's years ago and still listen to it today. Just raw tele straight into Marshall tone. I stumbled across a promo copy of Motherhead's Family Reunion cd over 10 years ago for .99! I love that cd and actually covered his version of I'll Be There for a while. Of course, I did my own version of the lead. I can't even begin to play what he recorded.
