What an amazing album! Does anyone have any info about what gear he was using during this time? His tone is amazing and isn't drenched in the usual Shrapnel "wall of reverb" production. Super intense soloing as well with amazing licks for someone so young at the time and that voice of course!

Any live vids of anything from this album too?

Definitely one of my favorite shred albums. I also always liked the lead tones from that record. As far as I can remember, he was using an Ibanez RG (probably US Custom) with horror movies poster graphics, which had now discontinued DiMarzio Double Whammy pickup in the bridge position. Ampwise I think he was using Laney AOR tube heads.

I played through one of those amps back in a day and there was definitely some kind of boost going on with Richie. Those heads lack gain for that kind of dense lead tone.

That sounds right with the gear. It should be the same gear Richie was using in his Hot Licks instructional video, since that was the same time as Fever Dream.

 He held that very guitar on the cover of "Fever Dream". I had that Laney head, plenty of bass but not enough gain. He claimed that he played straight into the amp with no effects on his REH video, but that's definitely not the case, the amp definitely has been either modified or a boost of some type was used.
