Rick Beato (yeah, I know) interviews Andy Wood

Andy has been an amazing player for a long time. Was a national mandolin champion in his early teens and didn't even pick up the guitar until later - and then proceeded to win a national guitar championship. Music just comes so easily to him, as you can see.

Can convincingly flow from metal to bluegrass and not miss a beat. One of the nicest, most humble guys you'll ever meet. It's a shame talent doesn't always equate to fame. His first record is amazing, A Disconcerting Amalgam, and is nowhere near the blues/country he plays today. More Guthrie Govan.

I was lucky enough to meet him at a Guitar Center a handful of times in Knoxville in the early 2000's when we were both around 19 or 21 years old. I heard some ridiculous playing and walked over and said hey. He was cool and we talked for a while about playing and gear. Even at that age, whatever I heard him playing in the store was some of the most impressive playing I'd ever heard up until that point. He wasn't playing for anybody or anything like that, he was just sitting around trying out some gear. He was just as much of a monster player then as he is now. Just unbelievable.

Saw his alter ego Ashley Lixx perform in Knoxville. Him and Davey Stranger (Ben Eller) proceeded to melt my face off for like 2+ hours.

I had an experience with him at Sweetwater recently. Top-notch guy all the way around.
