If I remember right ....... it was being " overly modded " to the point where a few of the OG's decided to start this place .....

I remember leaving HCAF because they changed the layout to this obnoxious style with garish colors and where every post looked like a comic book speech bubble. They were convinced that with “web 2.0” everything should look 3D and multi-colored and obnoxious because some idiots thought it would be cooler and more “modern.”

I didn’t want to look at that shit while I was trying to get information.

time flies .... I still remember the migration that took place the summer of 2006 from the old HCAF ....
I was becoming a dumber person and guitarist on that forum. I remember lurking on Rig-Talk and seeing people actually talking about guitars, gear, and music and packed up and left.

Was a hilarious place at the time. I still remember laughing myself sick at the EVH memes. The Madison amp stuff, etc.

One of the reasons I really enjoy rigtalk is that its clean and functional and not overly UI'd within an inch of it's life - it doesn't look like the ITunes app or something, and I really appreciate that.

Honestly the design of literally everything modern is getting Apple-ified with big, bright shiny colors so the womenfolk don't get confused.

Absolutely. There are only a small handful of forums I have in the rotation and they're all more or less in this same kind of organized, highly legible format. Built to actually use, not pop out at people who don't give a shit from 15 feet away like some executive thinks The Kids These Days want.

I like how RT doesn’t have separate forums for amps, guitars, effects, bass guitars, modeling gear, studio recording, live performance, etc…. You don’t need all that structure IMO.

I remember going into the FX forum at HC and it was like a whole separate thing of dudes that had 50k posts that never came to the amp forum and vice versa, I’d go in there asking how to get Metallica tone with my metalzone and fender 2x12 and they would get big mad lol
