I've been looking at used Mesa Rectifier 4x12 cabinets and found one used at Guitar Center. It sells for $599 before tax and has a rip the size of a quarter on the grill cloth. I spoke to them about reducing the price or having it fixed for me, but they refuse to do either. I realize that it is only cosmetic and probably does not affect the sound, but what do you guys think I should do? Go? No Go? Should I get it and try to fix it?

Go to used.guitarcenter.com. You'll be alble to search used inventory of all stores, and there are PLENTY of very clean Mesa 4x12s for under $500. They then charged me ONLY under $50 to have the cab freight shipped to my house.

In other words, your GC is trying to rip you off.

Best of luck.

If you buy used at GC you will find a couple at $499 but it looks like the majority are in the $599 - $649 range. But I think you can definitely get one with a clean grill for $500-$600.

I figured I'll stop by GC today to check it out and try to negotiate with them. If a tiny rip can get me a discount, so be it :D otherwise, I'll pass up and wait for a clean one to come along. I can buy "clean" cabs from other GC locations...

I've owned three Mesa Recto cabs in my life, one was pristine and I paid $500, one had a grill cloth tear and some very minor bruises and was $400, the other was a little rough with a large tear for $350. I wouldn't pay $600 to GC, instead camp out on Craigslist because in most areas they are common cabs. For me, GC has been more willing to negotiate on new item prices more than used in the past.
