Hey Guys,

im from Germany and im new here.
This is a great forum and i would like to share my experience with my Rivera Ktre with you and hope you guys can help me with my problem.

Ive been playing my Ktre for about 10 years. I loved that amp very much but i have not played it for the last 3 years. After i started playing it again i realized, that the bass amount is so big and full, that i can't turn the bass knob over 3 o clock. Thats the problem, because under 3 its no bass and over 3 its too much bass. Also at 3 its too much, but its ok so far.
So i put new preamp tubes in (bright Chinese ones) and new power tubes (EL34) and set the bias really cold at about 22 mA. But i have the same problem.

Now i bought a Maxon Overdrive pedal which helps to handle the bass problem (it cuts the bass frequencys very good). But i don't like the overall sound so much with the Maxon...

So is there another way to handle the bass problem? I also have a Diezel Herbert and the Ktre has much more bass then the Herbert which is totally crazy (exept when the Deep Knob of the Herbert is over 3 o clock ok ;-))!

Are there some guys who has the same problem? Do you know what i can do?

Thank you very much.

Mike

That's pretty much the K-Tre sound, I'm afraid, which is why most people boost them to tighten the low end. The Tre Reverb is a bit tighter un-boosted, though not by a tremendous amount.

If you want to stay with Rivera and not use a pedal, the KR7 is a lot tighter and more versatile, with the same basic ultra-aggressive tone. They're pricier and harder to find, but the KR100 and KR55 are quite similar and can usually be had for $800-$900.

I agree that is the K-Tre sound. The low end is flubby and overpowering for my taste. BUT, when I use my Fortin Grind or Fortin 33 pedal it sounds pretty damn amazing, especially for down tuned stuff which is pretty much the reason I keep my K-tre around. Good luck!

If you like what the 808 did to the bass but don’t like the other changes to sound, you could try an EQ pedal in front of the amp, cutting some bass. That should reduce wooliness and tighten it up a bit without adding anything else.

If you don’t like the change in feel, then putting the eq pedal in the loop instead could work.

Hey Guys,

thank you very much for your fast answers. I think about an eq pedal now.
I wanna keep the Ktre because it has such a great open and bright sound that i can't find in other amps. The funny thing is, when i have the presence on zero at the ktre, it is much brighter and more open sounding then the Diezel Herbert with the presence cranked.

I have not found anything better than a Horizon Devices Precision Drive for tightening a amp. It can get my Mesa Tremoverb as tight as a Fryette UL.

They just released the Nano Attack yesterday and don't see anyone talking about it on the forums.
