So I scored a Rivera Power Sink today when at the store. It was sitting in the bottom of the display covered with other stuff and when I asked the owner about it, he forgot he had it. I love Rivera stuff, so I asked if it worked and how much. He told me to take it home and try it...
He didn't charge me. He said if I like it we will work something out later. Works for me. I wanted it for my Marshall Class 5. My Riveras are already hooked up to Marshall SE 100s (ironically other rare, out of production attenuators) and I needed something to tame the roaring 5 watts for my apt.
I was looking at a Weber Micro or Mini Mass, so this was an ironic find. I just plugged it in and DAMN! It sounds awesome. Now, I have no idea what the specs are, or what the max wattage is, or the ohms or whatever it can handle, but for the Class 5...it is perfect. I haven't tried the line out or anything, and I can't attest to the reliability, but it is a Rivera and it is a giant heatsink. I mean it is over 20 yrs old. If it were new, I would have zero worries. Without the power sink, the class 5 could barely be on. With it on Min...which is like max attenuation, I had it at almost 75% volume, and it was very quiet. That is pretty awesome for an apt. When I hit the bypass switch to see the difference, it was astoundingly loud. Took it off bypass and right back to super quiet bypass with tone. Nice.
